So my laptop's speakers are crackling when I plug it into the mains. Obviously it's some kind of electrical interference but It's never done this before, just started happening last night. Did anyone experience similar and any ideas how to fix it?

Have you tested different plugs, get anything new recently?

I've tried a few, and they're all plugs I've used before with no problem. Don't think we've got anything new that would be relevant.

Ferrite rings can help reduce noise but it's not normal to need to add them.

Where and how do I add them?

Yeah, it's weird that it randomly started happening.

I would try it in a different building first, see if you still get it, try re-installing the audio drivers too.

I think turning the default format settings down to 16 bit 44100hz has fixed it...

They sell ones that just fit around your power cable. Never tried one myself, but they look simple enough to install.
