P775DM3-G to P775TM1-G or P870TM1-G upgrades? [CPU and GPU?]

    Here goes a long post!

I've been following the RTX and i9 stuff on GPU's and CPU's and Clevo & Sager!

So i've been hyped with mainly the new CPU's!

So a couple of stuff i've been tracking:

Which i hope can help on the replies:

    P775DM3-G to P775TM1-G:

    1) I've found that Eurocom is selling cheaper parts for upgrades and i've been looking into this one:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Clevo-P775...960192?hash=item1a769a1940:g:t~QAAOSwXCVcbwEO

(i've contacted the seller (eurocom) and they said my laptop would fit this one)

    So is it worth it?

    2) I would buy a 9900 or a 8700k to go along with it. Which to get and why? I've seen that 9900 would need undervolt so that wouldn't be a problem for me since my current 6700k is undervolted to -0.120mV and its running very very stable for over 6 months now and playing Battlefield V and other heavy games on it and no problems due to overheating (follow the temperatures in a daily basis).

    3) I intend on buying a 2080 in the future, so i would need to flash my 1080 to work with the P775TM1-G right? in the mean time?
    Also found this:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/P775TM1-G-...h=item1a76780dbb:g:3HkAAOSwHN9cbZw~:rk:1:pf:0

So the heatsink + GPU would be a plus i guess.

    P775DM3-G to P870TM1-G:

This to me seems to be the most reasanable and the best option for "upgrading":

Here the main point is in the first point:

    1) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Clevo-P870...=item1ee22ad05b:g:I5cAAOSw441bYMe0:rk:32:pf:0

It includes: G-sync, LCD, cable for the LCD (which is a pain the ass to change, because almost all the laptop needs to be disassembled in order to change it)
I already have the following LCD: AUO B173HAN01.3 (144Hz but no g-sync is available for the P775DM3-G and i believe this LCD is from a P775TM1-G but @John@OBSIDIAN-PC can confirm it since i bought it from Obsidian-PC)
And the above option includes a 780w charger from Eurocom which would be a plus since 2 chargers of 330w are a pain the ass to transport every single day lol.

    2) same as above, cpu would be need to be purchased.

    3) I would like to upgrade from the 1080 to the 2080 BUT haven't seen a modified heatsink on sale.

    Apart from the above.

Would this generation of nVidia be worth the upgrade or should i just a P775TM1-G barebone, take a new CPU, keep my 1080 and wait for VOLTA (30x0 from nvidia)?

PS: The upgrade is not to be made tomorrow, its just something i'm thinking off, as a entusiast and Clevo lover myself :D

PS2: Yes the computer is for gaming and 3D design on 3DS Max!

my 6700k isn't that bad today, it can handle everything i throw at him without a single issue

I am in the exact same situation owning a P775DM3 with 6700K/1080 and thinking about how to upgrade to 9900K.
From the two models you quote, only the P775DM3 will support the NVIDIA 2080 natively. The P870TM is end of life and does not support the 2080. It needs a mod for the GPU heat sink and the firmware. As far as I have seen, only hidevolution offers a modded P870TM with 2080 (P870TM-R: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...870tm-r-owners-lounge-phoenix-5.826848/unread)
Another option I was thinking about is just keeping the P775DM3 and trying the hack with the isolated pins and the modded bios to plug the 9900K into the DM3 (and stay with the 1080).
Also, the fact that as of now the 2080 is limited to 150W v.s. 190 for 1080 makes me wonder how much I would gain from upgrading, given that it would be pretty expensive.

I mean the P775TM1-G supports 2080, wrong model in your reply? Anyway yeah the 150w stuff is now a major drawback.

I already have 600€ apart for the P775TM1-G barebone and mainly, will be a motherboard upgrade and CPU and keep the 1080 i guess. Sadly i think i'll do that

Sorry for the type, sure, the P775TM supports the 2080, the P775DM3 does not, and the P870TM does only with a mod to heatsink and firmware.
However, I assume the initial revision of the P775TM did not support the 2080, only the new ones which are shipped now. So if you want to run with 1080 now, and switch to 2080 later, you might need a firmware update.
For sure you'll need to change the heat sink as well.

If you have a 1080 stick with it. Unless you need more CPU power for things like video editing, then you can mod yours to take an 8700k or even 9900k (runs hot with the 8 core obviously)

If you were going this route maybe you would be better off ordering from RJTech instead?
    https://rjtech.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30583

For about $250 more you get the same barebone system including a RTX 2060, battery, 330w Adaptor, LCD, WLAN, and a 1 year warranty. You wouldn't have to worry about swapping over anything... seems like a win to me.

For upgrading I wanna spend my money and get a 2080 instead but I'll look into it
Where is rjtech from? Never heard of them
Edit: I see that they are from CA, USA

Edit2: @qon look this up! It should be a great upgrade since you can buy the barebone and the CPU and the GPU and have warranty too :)

Thanks for the hint. I like that they sell without GPU, but for just staying with the P775, this seems still quite expensive to me.
I'd basically have to buy the same system again, just with a different CPU.

For staying with P775, I was rather thinking about the modded firmware here http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-p7xxdm-x-p870dm-x-km-n95xkp6-laptops.825558/, which should support 9900K.
I am only not so sure about the thermals, but I could delid, apply LM, and make sure the heatsink has enough pressure.

Should I go for the 8700k (409,90€) or the 9900k (546,90€)? The price difference from the 8700k is: 137€. No idea is the difference is justified for mainly gaming on the laptop?
I mean, if in the future I get the P775tm1 barebone and a rtx card maybe but right now with 1080 have no idea. What do you guys think?

So my next upgrade will be the 8700k cpu and keep the P775DM3-G and save some money to VOLTA's from nVidia (30x0 generation).

150w limited GPU... no thanks :)

I'll keep this topic updated once i get it and @John@OBSIDIAN-PC will help me with the flashing part of the BIOS and vBios! Kudos to you @John@OBSIDIAN-PC for being such a gentle soul :D

i think thats an absurd amount to pay eurocom. I got a motherboard and enclosure with the rtx heat sink fan and speakers 144hz panel 500 bucks on ebay NEW! thing is i had to put it together myself. All i need is prema bios. I have a 9900k already to drop with memory and nvmes. All i need to purchase is the plug and battery. I also have a AX200 Intel i got on ebay for 14 bucks!

I did end up buying a 8700k and using dsanke BIOS which supports RTX and GTX. I will eventually buy the 9900k and a 2080 in the future and will purchase the kits on eBay too. Yes the amount that Eurocom charges is absurd
As for wireless I did bought a Intel 9560 because I still don't have a ax norm router (own a Asus RTAC68U) but will eventually buy a Asus AX88U too when prices drop (its around 310euros still)

Hey do you know where i could get the spare parts for a p775tm1-g i tried hid evolution and i bought alot on ebay and ali express but i still got some stuff missing. I need the bottom and top case, hdd cover and cpu cover, front speaker and subwoofer...i also need the spring screws for both the gpu and cpu @Meaker@Sager

Make sure to do the paperclip mod or if your good with disassembly do the washer mod. It puts pressure on the gpu and cpu heatsink by making it go lower. When i did it dropped temps for me by 14C! @joluke

As for parts either ebay or as i do, contact @John@OBSIDIAN-PC via PM and ask for prices. I will buy from him, when I upgrade from my DM3 :)

Very reliable store and he is a great guy (know him personally and went to the store personally too)

These upgrade kits are a joke.
$1195 for barebone without even the screen/keyboard? these resellers really do like to rip off

I got quoted around 1200$ by contacting CLEVO themselves for P750TM1G-1 (which is same pc but 15.6" version) with RTX 2060 GPU included/ 144hz gsync screen and keyboard. RTX 2060 MXM alone sells for around 700$ on clevo-computer website.

You're paying an 500$ - 800$ extra for no reason

MXM cards are niche products with no official retail channel so they do work out expensive.

I got all my parts for a complete p775tm1-g build for about 600 bucks w/ 144hz panel included with panel selection (backlight bleed check) AliExpress. I reached out to a few places that sell clevo laptops no one seems to sell parts or not interested enough to get back to me. all im missing is a GPU and CPU. I almost won a 1080 on ebay for 100 bucks yesterday

Any Clevo reseller. In Europe you can ask pc specialist or any other reseller like obsidian pc and in US xoticpc and hid revolution or Sager for example

I bought on Aliexpress referencing the Manual (part #)to the shop i purchased from. I found this was the most economic way. Most places i looked at like retailers eurocom and even rjtech (i even have the premire account 2% discount) was too expensive and even ebay was too much. Track pad including top case on ebay and rjech hit around 112 bucks shipped alone and that was without left and right clickers on ebay the one for rjtech included at 112. Anyways on Aliexpress I scored CPU, HDD Cover, Front LCD Bezel, Speaker Set including Subwoofer, Trackpad with Top Cover and clickers for 195 bucks. I just also purchased the camera module at 28 bucks and got the bottom case for 60 from rj because the aliexpress shop sold out but it would have been 25 bucks. I got a battery, hdd slot holders, keyboard, lcd hinges and lcd back bezel with screw set and hdd front led module with cable on ebay for 90 bucks. i got the rtx cpu combo heatsink for 50 bucks on ebay (ive seen them go as low as 35) dont be swindled by eurocom who charges 200 bucks for it. I also got the original delta apd plug for 50 bucks on ebay. LCD panel cost me 83 bucks went with 144hz panel(the latest model) purchase on ebay from UK. I got 2 fans (original ADDA) NEW for 13 bucks on aliexpress people sell them on ebay for 30 bucks a piece..Got an intel AX200 wifi card for 15 bucks ebay. I saved around 500 bucks from having it prebuilt. Eurocom sells it on ebay for 1000 with a 60hz panel and 1100 with the 144hz one. If your not afraid to build it and good with the schematics you should be good. Im also going to custom paint it with enamel paint in White and have a storm trooper on the back of it.
