Hello, I am considering purchasing a pre owned P775TM1-G with an I7-8700 and a GTX 1080.

Is this model able to be upgraded to RTX cards and 9th gen CPUs?

I have seen the same model number with RTX cards so I’m not sure.

    Thank you!

They are compatible and the same exact chassis but you will be spending a pretty penny for the upgrade kit which also comes with the new heatsinks. With a 1080 I would unlock it with pascal tweaker then flash it, get the obsidian pc software suite to use instead of clevo control center and then just enjoy your laptop! Power modded 1080 is very strong against the measly RTX 2080s clevo is offering us to the point it makes the rtx 2080 look very sad, unfortunately RTX lineup is weak compared to the GTX launch performance wise. I would only maybe swap into a 8700K or 9700K for some overclocking on that front.

As above it would be a huge investment for a small gain.

I bought a P750-TM1-G with 8086K, and a GTX1080 for a pretty good deal on eBay. You can always sell the GTX1080 to re-coup some of the money. But yes you can upgrade this laptop. Sell the CPU too! If you’re buying a 9900K.

I think it could be worth it depending on your resolution you game at mostly, and or the games you are playing. RTX2080 will pull ahead at 35% in 4K at times.

That is unfortunate to hear, I guess I will stick with 10 series for now. Maybe once the price drops on the upgrade kits it could be worth it to upgrade the RTX cards?

Awesome, thanks for weighing in. I actually found a P750TM1-G a few hundred cheaper than the P775TM1-G I previously found, except it has a 1070 and a 8700. I am more partial to the 15" form factor, and I could see the 1070 if/when I want to upgrade the a 1080/2080.

I do plan on outputting to a 4K monitor at times, so I will have to look into some specifics for 4K performance with RTX vs GTX

It will be title dependent but still for the cost...

This is exactly what video you are looking for! 15” vs 17” RTX VS GTX!

If you pick up a laptop with a GTX1080 that is fine. I’d rather have my current laptop with my desktop equivalent GTX1080 than some of these thinner lighter Max Q RTX2070/80 options.

These Sager/Clevo GTX1080’s are extremely capable video cards. They destroy anything at 1080P and even 1440P.

Obviously the Sager/Clevo RTX2080 is still slightly faster at 1080P it’s only around 3-10% faster If that but it’s using a lot less power too.

These are excellent machines. And my GTX1080 certainly doesn’t feel slow or old in even the most demanding titles.

I will eventually drop in a RTX2080, just for something different to play with and overclock I suppose. But remember, you can easily upgrade the display/panel inside one of these laptops to 4K if you wanted.

I can pretty much max out any game at 1080P and expect 120+FPS.

The power is similar but it will run cooler as it's less thermally dense.

Can we not dump our bios and edit it to a higher TDP and manually flash the RTX2080 with a programmer?

I saw a thread of a individual who was running a Alienware 200TDP bios on his Clevo rtx2080

No, it needs to be signed for the values to take properly.

Not to mentioned it being pointless unless you can keep the card under 40c.
