Does cutting out the ventilation openings on the back panel of the P775 improve the airflow/cooling to any significant degree:
I am talking about the ribbed sections seen here and I have noticed that they seem to obscure/obstruct the fans slightly:

That's a nostalgic system in your signature. Yes you can get some core temp reductions by doing that, it's mostly minor. Some passives on the board may get a bit warmer.

Yes you get better temps, i have cut mine away, see post here:

But you need to use a coolpad under, i have a modded u3 with noctua fans, the biggest temp diff i saw on the Gpu, around 4-5 degrees, on the cpu side not that much.Last edited: Apr 14, 2021 -
Thanks for the quick replies - Cylix, I had pretty much the same idea - Add a fine mesh to protect against dust and run it on a cooling pad for greater airflow.
In summer, I do a lot of work in hot countries at ambient temps of 32°C+ so cooling is a real issue. -
Yes thats the way, i also put a fine mesh to stop the dust coming inside, there are some cheap PC housing meshes on amazon, just cut it to fit and i used black electrical tape to tape it on the inside of the cover.

Getting a good pressured cooling pad will help, with your own 140mm fans.

Now I have most of the parts I need for the cooling pad mod and laptop cooling overhaul.
I'll do some benchmarks over the weekend and create a new post documenting the mods.
I wish I could find posts I've read about my Mr. Fox, describing his cooling pad mods. -

Nice!
Looks very tidy with no signs of duct tape or nasty angle grinder work. -

140mm maglev.

Sweet fans.
Going to compare my nanoxia deep silence fans with the thermalright ty-140 pwm fans this week.
Right now the nanoxia fans are producing a low pulsing vibration which is louder than the airflow. -

That's not great, does just one do the same?
