P870 and P775 chassis that allow for 128GB memory?

Has anybody tried to get 32GB memory modules and more than 64GB of memory working in some of the older Clevo P775/P870KM and TM chassis?
Maybe that would be possible when Intel processors are used that support up to 128GB memory and with a special BIOS by Prema or Dsanke?

I am looking for a properly servicable and configurable DTR and there do not seem to be that many options out there and the older Clevo units can sometimes be had for a nice price especially since I do not need a current generation GPU.

While I am at it I would also like to add the question of what my chances are to get a P775 chassis running reasonably quiet with an average CPU usage of maybe 40 to 50% on 6 or 8 physical cores and usually less than 15% GPU load. I would not mind a slightly smaller and less hefty chassis that is easier to service and with a battery that can be easily swapped when on the go but quiet everyday operation is more important in my book. So if the P870 is noticably more quiet even with that kind of load I would rather go for that. I also like that the P870 chassis adds a third M2 slot in the KM and TM series.

You can run 128GB of DDR4 with Prema bios.

I have a P750TM1-G with an 8086K running at 5Ghz with GTX1080. I only paid $1,100 used for it. this machine pushes right past modern AMD (8) cores in heavy workloads. It is a monster of a machine at only 15.6” in size. I will also add that reliability, and the components in general seem to be overbuilt and durable too. This is my favorite laptop in the world, and the best PC I’ve ever owned.

The best of the best is a P870 with excellent cooling capabilities with the optional Vapor Chamber.

The Clevo P750/P775 will both cool at about the same rate or ability. It is up to your preference if you want 15” or 17”

While The P870 is the king, it is extremely expensive. I am very happy with what I have, and I am happy that I can push desktop performance out of my laptop in a small package.

Keep an eye out on the market place here, or eBay, don’t forget local CL too. I was only a couple hundred bucks away from getting a P870TM1-G when I first bought mine but, I simply couldn’t afford it and the seller wouldn’t budge even $50 bucks off lol. I searched day in and day out for a Clevo laptop with Z370 chipset and a MXM graphics options, that’s all I cared about! I was flexible on the rest.

These are incredible machines. I do NOT even own a desktop anymore. This laptop is my desktop. Or work PC all in one.

Thanks for the feedback, so how loud are the fans with medium CPU usage?

The fans can get loud. Not really annoying with moderate usage. But this is my choice to have them loud, I am going for pure performance and that last 3% of extreme frames per second during heavy AVX loads that push all 12 threads to 100% usage.

The thing is, I can easily make this system silent if I wanted to. It is all about the performance you want though. I like to run 5Ghz in Battlefield 5 so I run 100% fans because I need to for this kinda CPU power. It’s pulling over 130-140 watts at the CPU in game at times. The simple fact that a 15” laptop can cool this is insane to say the least.

If I backed my i7 8086K to stock I could get by with a silent laptop easily. Or even 4.7Ghz I could still operate silent fans.

A 8086K is a really nice CPU due to excellent quality silicon, requiring very little voltage.

If you want (8) cores then a 9900KS is another great option. You can undervolt the CPU and just run with stock clocks, and you have a pure beast of a laptop.

The less the voltage required for the cpu the better! And that goes for any model P750/P775/P870

40-50% load on 8 cores is going to suck quite a bit of power so the fans will need to run. Laptops don't really have passive cooling.

That's not what I wanted to hear ;)
Thanks for letting me know, I think I would have to find out myself as after all everybody has different levels of tolerance to fan noise anyway.

You can always improve the rpm/temp curve with a delid and LM. As that usually shaves off 10-20c and can have a meaningful acoustic reduction that way.

A delid seems to be a great idea but not sure about applying liquid metal on top of it, I hear that is has to be redone more often and I would probably prefer a more permanent solution.

I am running LM on top of my IHS. It works really really well. Just run some light Kapton tape around the socket for protection. LM is already soaked in to my IHS and heatsink really good though.

LM between the die and the IHS (basically under the lid) is a one time deal usually.

I guess that would be the kind of procedure where one should think long and hard about the resale value of the CPU being an issue or not :)

Depends on the community you are selling to but LM between the die and IHS does not really impact the machine itself.

LM sure didn’t hurt resale value of those X299 intel 7th gen extreme processors. Those things sold for the highest amount for a while.

Like Meaker mentioned, depends on where you put it up. There would be a vast difference when comparing Craigslist and NBR, when it comes to general computer knowledge. :)

Plus there is no real danger to operation and it can always be swapped out.

Did you have to disable TB3 to get that 128GB running?

I never ran 128GB in my machine. I found it to be physically impossible to obtain a Prema bios, I eventually sold it and built a desktop.

Perhaps brother @Prema might answer this.
