As I found the fan noise of the DM3 unbearable I figured out a way to put 3 12V Delta fans originally found in the ASUS G751 series notebooks inside the DM3.

To get the Delta fans inside the chassis I used the "russian method" :)

I brutally used a forceps to remove the protruded plastic screwholes from the housing of the ASUS fans and shortened the exhaust of the fans with a shaering.

I cut the wires of both the original ADDA fans and the ASUS fans and used the connector of the ADDA fans on the ASUS fans by connecting the wires:

    black: mass
    red: current
    yellow: rpm signal

the blue wire stays disconnected (pwm signal) because the Clevo mainboard fan connector does not use pwm.

I bought 1 ASUS cpu fan and 2 ASUS vga fans, about 50 Euros each, so the mod will cost all in all about 200 Euros.

I used the ASUS cpu fan for the CPU in the Clevo DM3 chassis and 2 ASUS VGA fans for cooling the VGA cards inside the chassis. The intake of the ASUS fans is always oriented to the bottom.

By doing so, one needs no modding of the DM3 chassis itself.

The Delta fans maximum rpm is about 3950 for the cpu fan and 3650 for the vga fans. The original ADDAs do 4200 rpm max. So at Fn+1 the ADDAs cool the unit a little better, I found a difference on the graphics cards between the Delta and ADDA of about 5c. However, the ADDAs are I would say twice as loud as the Delta when both fans are at max speed.

The third run of heaven maxed out at 4K gave me 83C on GPU1 and 85C on GPU 2 (ADDA: 81/82).

I will do some further temp testing when I find the time.

After the mod the DM3 is MUCH quieter than with the original fans, even quieter than the DM1 at max speed.

Thanks @Prema for helping me with the wires/fan adapter ;-)

hey man, really interesting stuff, can you do a prolonged run of heaven in 1080p ultra everything for 30-40minutes and report the temps? and how secure is the fans?

I did now some prolonged tests with heaven (1 hour) and witcher 3 (2 hours) at maxed settings in 4K.

GPU one reaches 86C max and GPU2 88C max with fans at full speed. The cards clock at around 1800 MHz. The unit is sucking about 490 W from the wall.

In witcher 3 CPU reaches 83C with no OC, no dellidding but undervolted by -140mV.

Everything is stable and noise level is wonderful

Compared to the original fans at max speed, temps seem to be about 4-5C higher. Personally, I am willing to take this toll.

Maybe @Prema finds a way to give us a magic bios which allows us to undervolt the cards ;)

Install latest MSI Afterburner and set 0.950V for 1860 mhz. GTX1080 is stable at this V on 1860 MHZ and you will drop about 5-6C.

@bsch3r - Nice fan mod. Good job, bro.

When my DM3 gets here next week I will evaluate whether the fans are "too loud" to suit me. If it is too obnoxious I may have to look into it.

Undervolting CPU or GPUs is absolutely out of the question for me. I will be doing the exact opposite, so the increase in temps may not be an acceptable trade-off.

Please consider using an image hosting service for important photos and screen shots. I can only see two of the images in the opening post because the image hosting on this forum is totally broken. You can host images on Imgur or postimage.org for free. I keep my important images on Imgur and those that are "disposable" go on postimage.org. Use the "direct link" method to insert them in your posts here.

Does Afterburner allow to change voltage on Pascal mobile? The last version I tried did not work on mobile variants. Which version should I get?

    Beta 14.
When you launch the program press ctlr+f to open core frequency/voltage curve window. There set 0.950 for 1860 Mhz. You may go lower but under this voltage the lower I went the more artifacts I have seen.

how the hell those fan cost 50 euro? I can buy them for 10usd apiece.

Ok, maybe if someone has the asus delta fan pinout data they can attach a digital power supply with adjustable voltage to it and set 12v constant. That way the fan isn't being controlled by the laptop EC. Problem being, you'll probably need to overcome where the EC checks if there's a fan installed in the system or not. @Mr. Fox

Thanks man, it works but only for one gpu at the same time. Is there a trick to get both gpus undervolted at the same time?

Nevermind, found out. I unchecked synchronize GPUs under settings. I am now on 950mV for both GPUs. GREAT!!! Will do some testing now.

This undervolt works great. Thanks once more for this great tip @DRevan!

In witcher 3 I get higher clocks and the temps are a little lower at times. However, obviously the DM3 is tuned to reach 90C at highest possible clocks. So undervolting seems to provide higher clocks in the first place rather than lower temps. I guess with the DM3 we have to get used to 90C for the cards; at least Clevo stated that this temps (which are somehow intimidating) are o.k.

So right now cards hold about 1800 MHz at temps between 85-90C while my modded DM3 runs whisper quite. I am pretty happy with the result :)

CTRL F to open the voltage curve point.

You can press "L" to lock the card's maximum voltage to a specific point.

I think these two images show best how the Deltas fit in the DM3. Right now, the fans are fixed with duct tape, works just fine. I will try to figure out how to fix them permanently inside the chassis.

I prefer abload.de myself since they don't downsample the image quality.

    It's german too.

This looks (and probably sounds) pretty cool. Since I am in Eastern Europe, can you PM me a link for these fans?
