    EUROCOM Q5 (P957HR)

    History:
Battery stopped charging while the unit was running. I might have noticed a faint burning smell, but I wouldn't swear to it. Laptop went to battery mode even though adapter was plugged in. Turned off the adapter and switched it back on. Now adapter is working. Laptop runs fine on adapter. Laptop runs fine on battery, but battery is not getting charged.

    Current status:
With adapter plugged in, laptop runs on AC. BatteryBar says charge rate 0 mW. Battery charge NOT increasing or decreasing.
With adapter not plugged in, laptop runs on battery. Battery charge slowly decreases (as expected).
Power LEDs functioning normally. Currently showing ON and charging.

Could someone please help me troubleshoot and fix this? I have the service manual. Highres pictures of the motherboard and component layout would also be appreciated.

Batteries have intelligent components too, and smells like something died. Pun intended. I would replace the battery, especially if it is under warranty.

Not an option - out of warranty. The battery is working, though. I can unplug the charger and the laptop runs on battery as normal. Battery starts discharging as normal. Plug in the charger - laptop runs on AC.

Does anyone have a component layout of that section of the motherboard? I really don't want to trace tracks on a multi layer PCB. OZ8690LN-A3 datasheet would be most appreciated.

sounds like your battery dead or switching polarity or something, sometimes this happens, seen it in almost all sort of devices with lithum

The motherboard schematics for your laptop can be found on Prema's website, https://premamod.wordpress.com/. Navigate to Maintenance > Service manuals then hover over the appropriate section. You might have to zoom out on the webpage to see the full menu.

Thanks, I had that already. I'm looking for component layout, or at least a high res photo of the motherboard. Also looking for a OZ8690LN-A3 datasheet (that's the battery charger / controller mentioned in the schematic).

@woodzstack The battery is working. I can unplug the charger and the laptop runs on battery as normal. Battery starts discharging as normal. If I plug in the charger, the laptop runs on AC as normal. The only issue is that the battery is not getting charged. (current battery charge level is 84.4% - it goes down a little every time I unplug the charger to check).

Either a battery issue or the charging circuitry could be damaged.

What power brick are you using? I'm wondering if the brick is strong enough to run pc and charge.

Chicony A15-180P1A. 180W This is what was shipped with the laptop when I got it. No trouble for almost 2 years.

I've been busy with work - outstation trip. Now that I'm back, I'm going to open it up and see if I can spot anything.

Took it to a computer repair shop and got it fixed. They replaced a MOSFET. Charged me $55. Forgot to plug in the speakers and the webcam and mic. Will have to either take it back or do it myself.
