does not look like too much of a better performing CPU that the one you already have.

difference of 400 MHz wont really translate to better or noticeable gaming performance.

.. rather it would be noticeable in CPU intensive apps (converting/editing/rendering/etc)

Well, if you have the money to throw around...

Funnily enough, I'm sure I've recently read that a doubled cache rate does give a notable performance jump. Can anyone clear up what's considered a worthy price/performance ratio? It seems everyone has a different consensus.

    EDIT:

Hang on, I found the quote:

Taken from Neil on the Kobalt board. It matches roughly what you're saying Blacky.

To be honest, I feel the P8600 to be sluggish in some applications and games and it pisses me off. Sure, the real difference is of about 20% only, but I think that is enough for me.

I could go for a Quad or an X from ebay if they had some good power saving futures, but they don't and I already think my battery life is at its minimum required.

EDIT: There still hasn't been anyone to properly test the power consumption of the QX9300. All we know for now is that it's maximum TDP is 45W. There was someone who said it lasted about an hour while gaming on a M570ETU.

P9700 also has 3 MB's more of cache... so its not only an increase of 400 MHz. Although I dunno how exactly does more cache translate to better perfomance (not saying it doesnt, just that I dont know.)
