Got the link from the list of retailers and was wondering how this company's rep and laptop quality are like? I am specifically looking at the 14.1" Impulse model and would like to know what Sager/Clevo this is based off of. Thanks!

It's a well reputed company. Look them up on www.resellerratings.com
As for the IMPULSE, it's not a Sager (rebranded Clevo OR Compal), instead it's the same laptop as one offered by Zepto. -
Thanks a lot! Is it the same model as the Zepto Znote 6224W? From the pics, it looks identical. Do you know the ODM or should I ask in another sub-forum? The model isn't listed on Goren's sticky
but it seems Zepto uses a lot of Compal, so would chances be a Compal (even though you said it's not one?)

I got a PC MicroWorks and was VERY happy with my new laptop.

i think the impulse is one of the ugliest laptops. it reminds me of those old grey laptop design.
take a look at the new voodoo thats coming out, the 13inch. maybe you would prefer that? -
*cough* Edge *cough*...
But PCMW has that Diamond upgrade program, would like to see it in action... -
i would say he is looking for a smaller form factor.
If you did the cough though to say that the m860tu is ugly.... dont get me started or ill never shut up. -
**not mentioning price or looks **cough** but lies** cough**
PCMW is a good choice, they have pretty nice speciall offers most of the time. -
yea i know what you mean. pcmw lie more than a teenager triing to cover up a big house party that took place without consent.
-
Also read the Clevo Guide, I covered PCMW in there.

Actually I purchased from PCMW less than two weeks ago. So far the computer (fusion 15.4 from outlet, version 2a) seems okay, although it took me a while to get it up and running;. I ordered on a Monday and received product the following Tuesday (which seems about right since they say their outlet products are prebuilt, waiting to ship).
Cons to my purchase:
- immediately transferred to google checkout when placing order, not sure about a company I can't deal with directly. I have yet to receive so much as a "thank you" from PCMW for purchasing from them.
- after I ordered and got no response from the company, I made an account on PCMWs site and e-mailed them a question (this was Thurs after purchase). I didn't get a response until after I received the laptop (almost a week later) and still not even an acknowledgement for my purchase. I had asked to merge my purchase with the account I establish on PCMW so I would have some type of assurance from them that they had my order.
- when I received the laptop, there was no bill of lading, packing slip, or anything else to prove I purchased it. Basically all I have is my credit card receipt and acknowledgement from google checkout. Hoping I won't need warranty work, cause I'm sure they'll give me grief about proving my ownership.
- upon unpacking and booting up laptop, no-go, as in Windows wouldn't load and was in a continuous boot-up loop saying installation couldn't continue and then would reboot. Pretty sure somewhere on their site it said they do a 3-day burn in with all their products, but obviously not this one as Windows had never been properly loaded. Fortunately I know enough about computers to F2 it, change boot up to "from CD" and then install the OS myself. The box did have my Windows 64 disc and a utlilities disc.
- upon actually loading Windows and getting it up and running, attempted to load all the W64 drivers. Things went well until I got to the WOW driver and then hard crash. I had to actually use an old XP OS disc to get access back to the computer and start over. Needless to say I have not tried loading the WOW driver again as I really don't enjoy doing repeated intalls of OS. Not sure if this means I'll be out the availability of WOW as I haven't played with it much (doing my own 3-day burn in to see if anything else goes South).
- in all fairness, I haven't contacted PCMW about my experience yet (waiting to finish my 3-day burn in and make one call or message). Not sure they would have told me much but to do what I did--can't imagine sending it back to have them load the OS, which they should have done properly to start with.
- this is primary my wife's laptop (I type this on my Dell XPS 1710, which I've had initial release with not one single problem), but I'm not sure I would buy another computer from them (might just be me, but a "thank you" seems appropriate for a $1600 purchase). I was interested in their "Edge" product, but if this is what I get with established hardware, don't think I'll be using them for new hardware that's bound to have problems.
Hope this is helpful...don't mean to bash PCMW as I did like you (ordered from PCMW after just finding them on the web and not really knowing them as a company), except I ordered before asking your question. Guess I was sucked in by their state of the art website. This is just a true accounting of my experience with them based on a product I ordered less than two weeks ago and received this past week...bill
edited to add parenthesis to clarify context in paragraph directly above. -
I think there are much better options.
Look at the Dell Vostro Line, Apple MB, and Sony FZ -
Stay away from SONY, bad custommer support rep...
-
had to pile on sony for their terrible customer service. Dislike them so much now that I refuse to consider any tv, camera, stereos. phones.... really dislike their arrogance and dismissive attitude. My heartburn stems from a failed HD in one of their pos SZ120P. Medialess OS and the nuckleheads refused to accomodate my request for OS replacement on my new HD. Last time I purchase medialess anything and will never purchase any other sony pos product. I figure it easily will cost them 20,000 over next 10 years.

_Sony _stinks!

Dell Vostro compared to Clevo?! Really?
Huh.
I just ordered a Horizon from PC MicroWorks. It's the equivalent to the Sager 5793. I've read a lot of good about these machines, and can't wait for it to arrive. I had no problems with ordering and payment - handled it right from their own secure sight and server. They're based 30 miles from my house too, so it's nice to be local. -
Nice... I like having a local touch if you ever need to see them.
I live about 40min from the HQ of many Clevo OEM/importers (Sager, Pro-Star, etc..) in City of Industry
I went up there once to get a part swapped, did not have to pay for shipping.
There are so many Clevo vendors (in Clevo Guide) all over now, it nice to find one in the same area. -
Ugh, sony vaio... its soo expensive but the spec of their notebook arent worth the money.. seriously!!

Well you will love your laptop. Got my 5793 3 days ago and I am totally in love with it. Came pretty fast to. Placed order Monday arrived at my house Thursday with overnight shipping. Haven't had any defects with it, dead pixels or light leakage. Still trying to get used to a laptop keyboard vs my desktop which i had been using for 8 years. Also getting used to VISTA. Other than that its great.

You will love it as @Minkang said, I got used to it fast..
And make sure you update to SP1 as soon as you get it, it will make a world of a difference. -
PC MicroWorks - anyone have heard/bought from them?!
