    Hi,
Will the following memory work on an M860TU, the system in my sig?
    976647A - 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 SODIMM PC3-10600 9-9-9-24 Apple (Dual Kit)

I currently have (2x2GB) PC3-8500 7-7-7-20 @ 533MHz; however I see the PC3-10600 is rated at 800Mhz, with 9-9-9-24, could this be problematic or will it automatically downclock? Is 9-9-9-24 noticeably slower than 7-7-7-20?

Also, does the "Apple" designation mean anything, i.e. some sort of proprietary connection?

    thanks for any help

Ok, so maybe a better question to ask is: does anyone know what are the best memory modules for the M860TU in terms of frequency and timings and brand?

It seems you have a 1066MHz FSB,

I'd use PC3-8500, the same timings you have now.

It's good to keep the same speed as the FSB, and you would gain nothing with going PC3-10600.

    Hope this helped.

    :D

Oh and for best performance, I would get HyperX modules, as they run at tighter timings at the same frequency.

thanks Ryan that did help. I also should mention the PC3-10600 are 4GB whereas the PC3-8500 are 2GB.
So the best upgrade for my system would be PC3-8500@4GBs (versus 10600 or 10666)? If it turns out to be more hassle to return the PC3-10600s, what am I looking at for the worst that can happen if I put them in?

Then there is no problem.. i mean, having more ram vs. matching the fsb..

More ram would be a lot better, especially if you were limited to 2gb.

I would put the 4gb in!

If you put in faster RAM in a computer with a slower FSB, most of the time the RAM will simply downclock itself to be compatible.

thanks guys, so either way PC3-8500, PC3-10600 and PC3-10666 will all downclock to the same speed, that of my FSB.
in that case I'll give these ones a shot. can't wait to go from 4GB to 8 GB!
