So I've done some light searching regarding SSD's in laptops, and I was wondering: Is it possible to use an internal PCIe slot for an SSD in my Sager NP2090 (Compal IFL90)? If so, what kind?

I've run across a bunch of custom-interface cards for the Eee PC and some smaller Dell netbooks. I don't expect them to work, the NP2090 is a far shot from the netbook world :)

I did come across this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Z-P230-16GB-PATA-SSD-Solid-State-Drive-Mini-PCI-E_W0QQitemZ350134987616QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item350134987616&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50

It's an Intel Z-P230 SSD that's listed as PATA/PCIe. Would this be compatible?

    Thanks!

...Not to double post to an old thread, but anyone have any ideas about this?

From what I've heard their performance is quite bad.

I run SSDs in RAID0 in a SAGER 9262 and the performance for specialized workloads is excellent. For a PCIe slot to really work with SSDs you would should use a server card which won't fit a notebook. I have desktop machines with PCIe server cards and SSDs.

Unless you do rendering, DB, enterprise development or specialized workloads you will not see much of a real performance improvement with SSDs.

I just got some desktop machines with that model Intel SSD running RAID0 SATA which are as high performance as last years server class SSDs.

Unless you have lots of extra $$ or know why you have a specific reason for an SSD, save your money for something else.
