I've purchased a Clevo m570ru from PCMW, and should have it tomorrow or Monday. I have a question on the speed of the RAM.
PCMW advertises it on their configuration page as running at 800mhz, but I'm skeptical of the chipset actually running above 667. Does anyone know what the Clevo MOBO/Chipset allows? I'm thinking PCMW just uses 800 RAM chips that have to downclock to 667, and they do it in order to make the specs look sexier during configuration.
Anyone know for sure?

The max speed the 570RU supports is 667MHz. If any faster ram is installed (i.e. 800MHz) it will be downclocked to 667MHz.

Thanks for confirming that, Justin. That's really what I suspected.
I'm hoping my system works well, but I'm wishing I had ordered from PowerNotebooks or Xotic instead... I really hate the manipulative marketing techniques. -
There are some possible (small) gains from using 800MHz ram...
It can usually run at tighter timings (latencies) than stuff that is built to run at 667MHz.
It can usually overclock better (as even when 'overclocked' it's still running well within its specs)
Just my 2cents -
Thanks, theriko. I doubt, though, whether I'll ever notice any difference from the latencies. And I don't plan on overclocking my RAM.
