Ok guys I was just checking out PCMW's webpage and they are offering a Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX9650 Quad Core (3.0GHz/45nm/1333MHz/12MB) [+360.00] processor on their 9262 syste.

Can anyone explain this? I thought the 9262's couldnt have a QX processor?

The QX version has an unlocked multiplier and so you can overclock it without raising the FSB.

Yes it support it and some members in NBR already using it,Johnksss for ex., but since you cant overclock the cpu in the 9262 because of locked Bios i dont see a reason to buy a QX and pay rhe premium cost than a Q9650.

no point in getting the QX9650 since there is no way to OC it (BIOS or software).

The multiplier is locked. Some people reported that they could unlock via software.

no one has proven it to me yet.

show me the software that can do it.... and I'll stand corrected. :)

Even if the multiplier would be unlock, it would be a waist of money to buy qx9650 instead of q9650 because the motherboard will not be able to withstand more than 3GHz on a quad core.

It's perfectly possible, but not worth the money when it will not perform any different than it's non extreme counterpart.

nope, just no really feasible is all.. :)

    unlocked multiplier is all

yep. i only bought mine because i got it cheaper than buying a q9650

    correct.

one person and he was lien. flat out. never proved anything. then tried to sell the laptop..so he probably fried it. (speculation of course) :)

that's because no one can. :)

not true. it's a desktop board and rated above what we call normal. they just don't advertise it. warranty and all.

it's a go if you want to, but they run exactly the same in this rig. all you get is the shinny "QX" in all your chip titles...lol
temps on the qx9650 are idle 31/31/38/38-41/41
for me they are...not sure about the q9650 though.

Iwas thinking that according to the specs the mother of D901C will will support processors with TDP up to 130 W or something and qx9650 with multiplier set so that the speed is over 3 GHz will have its TDP higher than that. I thought that was the initial problem with D900C when putting a quad was frying the motherboard after a while.

ummm, according to the manufacture, no 130 cpu would work, but of course that isnt true now is it... :)

and the temps are lower running an extreme cpu than a regular one. part of why it cost so much.

Sorry. You are right. It is 95 W for the q9450-q9650 and probably 136W (I think) for the qx9650. Anyway the idea is the same.
