I have a future purchase in mind. A high end 9570 or a high end 9380-s both with maxed hardware. I know that the 9570 does my following request just fine because someone on youtube tested it for me. Now I would like to know that if anyone here that uses the PCSX2 emulator and has Final Fantasy XII or GhostHunter, can they please boot it up with a 1920x1080 resolution and tell me if you get a high gpu load or massive lag when:

-Doing Basche's 3rd Quickening in FFXII

-Capturing ghosts in the ghost trap in GhostHunter

This will help me decide if I need to get the 9380-S if the 9570 won't have internal 3D vision in the future or if I just need to wait. A video capturing just one of these moments is good enough but I prefer to see the FFXII one. Also, an owner could just tell me if they don't feel like making a video. I would prefer an answer as soon as possible please because this will be a determining factor in my purchase and black friday/cyber monday is coming up soon.

    ~Thanks in advance.

The only difference would happen if PCSX2 likes having 2 extra cores.

Like I said performance wise that will be the only major difference between the two.

Each of the cores on the haswell based 9380 are slightly faster than the 9570's ivy-e, so unless a title takes advantage of the 2 extra cores the 9380 may take a slight lead but should mostly be a wash with the two so anything the 9570 can do the 9380 will be very similar.

I believe this is a gpu issue that I'm trying to see about. I have a Qosmio x875 right now. With a GeForce GTX 670M. When those 2 scenes happen at 1080p, the fps reduces to 10 and lags with a 99% gpu load. For $4000+ dollars, the smart decision would be to find out if this still happens in the 9380-s. So forgive me if asking for a 1 minute video of the scene on a 9380-s OR EQUIVALENT machine is asking to much.....:/

    Still need a definite answer.

Spending $4000 for those two scenes seems a little... extreme, surely you should be wondering more about the options each offers, the weight, cooling etc.

I've already told you if the 9570 can do it then the 9380 can do it too and looking neither of those titles utilises 6 cores so I am still curious at your choice of question.

Those two scenes will also depict future performances. For example, Injustice, Gods Among Us for PC, in 3D Vision, it's slow even with low settings on 1080p on my current machine. That's the only game right now that does that with 3D vision on but it still shows what is to come with this generation of console games. I'm not a big fan of buying new equipment every year (which would exceed $4000 easily over time). I'd rather buy something that'll last for 15 years than to spend 1500 every year. Inb4 laptops won't last that long: I have a dell dimension 8400 that I used for 11 years and that was one hot machine and it still works today. It's not a laptop, but still, it displays how well I take care of my property. Heck, I even got a NES from 1989 that still works perfectly without blowing in it.

The 9570 benches at over 10000 something with a single card. The 9380 benches at 7500 something with a single card. That's a big difference. I don't care about the weight and benchmark vids already answered cooling questions. It's silly to even take $1000 laptops outside of the home because of the price and the battery life, so the laptop never goes anywhere and I don't care for desktops anymore. Carrying cases even scuff up the outsides of the laptop with its fabric or with the bag brushing up against stuff (excludes suit cases).

Extra cores will help in this case because you can specifiy how many cores you want to use for the graphics plugin of the emulator. And if it didn't, more cores still help the overall windows system so it still helps the background processes to not slow your gaming down. Currently, I specify 5 cores for the graphics plugin and the other 3 for other aspects of the emulator, inside the emulator. Nobody is going to pay my shipping or return fees if it doesn't play them as good as the 9570 so I need a video or somebody that actually tries it so I can actually see.

An emulator is never a good indication of a machines performance in actual PC games and a PS2 emulator is certainly not a good indication of future performance in up coming cutting edge games. Such emulators just brute force their rendering and are really not making proper, optimized use of the hardware. If you want an indication of performance in 1080p games with 3D Vision then ask for benchmarks for Injustice or other modern games instead of asking for videos of specific scenes in emulated PS2 games.

The point Meaker is making is that you can get exactly the same GPUs in both machines so graphics performance will not be any different. The only performance difference is one has a 4th gen CPU with 4 physical cores and the other has a 3rd gen CPU with 6 physical cores. In real world performance the 4th gen Haswell chip will likely give you better performance as games generally don't benefit that much from the extra cores

Multithreaded rendering is used to push more draw calls to the GPU to avoid being bottlenecked by the CPU, but when anything beyond 8 cores (4 physical cores + 4 virtual cores through hyperthreading) doesn't really improve performance as it's already able to push more draw calls than will realistically be made by any well made game.

Whatever the case, neither laptop will last 15 years playing top end games. In 5 years they will both start showing their age. In 10 years they will be struggling. In 15 years they will be considered low spec machines. Technology moves FAST and while SLI 780m's certainly will hold up for quite a while they will be eclipsed by new hardware in a few years.

Given the fact you don't care about mobility but do care about longevity, a desktop in a fairly compact case would certainly be a lot better suited for your needs, especially if you go for a pair of 780ti cards, which would probably cost the same as the two 780m cards but give twice the performance and then, in a few years, you could probably just replace the GPUs instead of buying a whole new machine.

If an emulator pushes things to the max, would that not mean prediction for future gaming power? What's the difference in asking for 3D benchmarks than emulators? A person can just quickly download the emulator, actually answer the question, and then discard. I know the point that he is making. It doesn't necessarily mean it will still give the same performance even with the same graphics card. Would you go buy a house just because somebody else (from speculation) says that it's okay or would you go to the house first and see for yourself?

Also, for the life of the laptop (which I clearly said I don't care for discussing but only an answer to the question with someone who already tried it for 2 MINUTES) no one can speak on besides people who actually kept one for a long period. A high end part like a processor is still going to cost around $1000 to 1500 like a medium powered laptop. It will last, I know so. Even that desktop I mentioned needed 1 replacement mobo and one replacement graphics card out of 11 years but it will still last if ppl take care of their stuff. In 15 years, I'll be 45. Next gen consoles after ps4 will about to be coming out around this time. This sager plays Injustice and all the other ps4 launch titles just fine so that means it will do just fine right when ps5 is about to come out. And since the architecture is more similar to pcs this time around, I'm sure the sager will last even in the graphics department. The desktop plays games decently now (pentium 4) on med to low settings (mostly low on recent games) so it will be okay.

No, not really. An emulator (especially) could well load the GPU in odd ways not indicative of modern titles. To give you an example say one emulator requires a lot of memory bandwidth it will scale linearly as you get faster and a wider interface. However say games going into the future don't use that extra bandwidth they care more about shader power, then the choice of chip you went for originally (with the fastest memory) does not scale as well as game titles move forward.

Also the only reason a 9570 would significantly out bench the 9380 is that a cpu portion of it loves CPU power, going forward the graphics card will be the limitation and it wont make a different with them.

You need to take a step back and go at this in a different way, I suggest going to the "what notebook should I buy" section of the forum and filling it out, a notebook is a more difficult choice hardware wise and the specs will not last as long as a gaming machine compared to a desktop for the same money. That's just the notebook world so be prepared to buy a machine more often, it wont be up to gaming in 5-7 years any more, it will be too slow especially with the new consoles coming out which will accelerate progress now.

Exactly as Meaker explained. Emulators do not use the power of the hardware in the way which actual PC games do. To put it into relatable terms, an emulator is like driving a car by stomping the accelerator pedal flat but leaving it in first gear, the engine is being run ragged and hitting its maximum revs but it's not efficiently using the available power for the best performance.

You're also over estimating the length of time before the PS4 & XB1 will be succeeded with another generation of consoles. Both Sony and MS have said the machines will "last" 10 years, not 15. However, they both said the PS3 & 360 would last that long too and they probably will be supported that long, but it was only about 7 years before this next gen of consoles were released and that is the time frame to expect the PS5 and 4th Xbox to be released in.

Another point is that just because a PC can play the launch games of a console generation fine doesn't mean it will be able to play the games released at the end of the generation fine. A 7800gt (equivalent GPU to the PS3) is not capable of playing Assassins Creed 4 at any decent quality, if at all.

To put the speed at which notebook hardware improves into perspective, the 670m which is in your current laptop was a the second most powerful laptop GPU on the market when it was released last year but just a year later when the 700 series came out, the 750m which is a mid range GPU is pretty close to the same power. I would expect lower end GPUs in the up coming 800 series to have that level of power. Anything you buy now buy now will seem ancient in 15 years. These days phones and iPads have far a ton more power than the most expensive desktop PCs from 15 years ago and these days technology is improving faster than ever.

Why don't you understand that different architecture means difference in performance and intended use? A super computer built with 99999999999999999999999 Xeon 10th gen 9999 ghz 9999 core CPU will still get thoroughly and absolutely trashed by ASIC processor using 1/100th the power when it comes to things like code breaking.

PS2 was built on MIPS architecture, the PS3 is based on PowerPC architecture. Intel is x86. The video processor is another totally different story. The emulator is ONLY as good as the people writing the translation code and since it's a project done by people in their spare times, don't expect miracles. Emulator performance has absolutely ZERO, I repeat, ZERO, correlation to future game performance. We know that the CPU of today is vastly superior to the the processor used by consoles in specification, but it doesn't mean today's CPU can do what those special console processors can do. The only thing that determines the efficiency of console emulation is the translation code. You will get more FPS boost in any of the emulator by improving the emulator code than hardware.

You are correct that current gen console has very similar hardware and architecture to PC. It is natural to assume that PC will be able to run all console games since PC hardware is already way head of the console equivalent. However, nobody knows what kind of optimization or special change the consoles to have more performance squeezed out of them. If anything, this will only make console developer MORE lazy and produce even worse console ports since they can spend little effort on the port and hope the similarity in architecture will allow future PC hardware to make up the performance difference.

There is only one thing you can count on: history. GPU performance will need to improve as new games come out, simple as that. Look at all the titles based on the ubiquitous Unreal engine, they need more and more GPU performance each year even though the underlying codes are mostly the same.

If you want to get the most for you dollar, take that $1000 CPU and downgrade it to a $300 one, then donate $700 to your favorite emulator developer. Now get the most powerful GPU available. Best of both worlds.

Ha, you guys are worse than calling Dell for support and them charging $99 just to reinstall windows. Shoulda' known that if you ask for a simple thing, idiots with give you 10,000 things you didn't ask for instead of doing the one and only simple thing. For all this bs, you could've actually downloaded and made the video by now. Bye.

The sense of entitlement is strong with this one. Why should we download the emulator? Do we all have PS2 system to get the emulator BIOS from (no we don't support piracy here)? Do we all have a FF DVD to convert into an ISO? By what metric would we measure the performance? At what settings? Which part of the game do you want it measured? Do you really think this is a 2 min task? Would you even believe the results we get? Lastly, why should we help someone like you with no sense of appreciation (I'm glad no one did what you asked)?

Good riddance and drown in your own ignorance.

BTW, if I didn't know anything about computer I would gladly pay someone to install Windows for me, just like I pay for oil change (super simple job amirite?).

Typical. This is a forum. Entitlement has nothing to do with anything. If you don't have a particular thing that someone is asking for, and don't want to follow the actual subject, then why talk. But I guess you need to feel 'superior' somewhere right considering most likely, your life is probably crap. That's why you feel the need to copycat "internet attitude". I only signed up to the site for 2 things about the same laptop, and I can't even get either. Why the would I give all that money to things I can't even get simple answers to. You know the saying, so smart but yet so dumb. That sums it up for you now doesn't it :p
You only came here to try to stack flame. That's it. Pitiful. The thread was already 3 pages down already and you just had to comb because you have no life. I didn't speak anymore because it was pointless and you're just trying to keep it going now weren't you.

But yeah, you can go along beating a dead horse and talking about useless things. You got nothing better to do so go ahead and enjoy yourself. Make yourself feel important. Anything to prevent yourself from committing suicide or whatever it is ppl like you like to do. But it will be ignored. Nobody got time for this nonsense.

Since you are so persistent in perpetuating this thread but can't seem to use Google, I'll actually help you:

Read the release notes for PCSX2 v1.0.0 = triple thread support, 4th thread used to run the GUI

This means the ivy-e CPU with 6 core isn't gonna do anything for you because PCSX2 doesn't use them. The faster clock on the haswell will make the emulator run faster.

Don't care . Just stop talking. I already went over this. That's not even a recent version and I already told you that you can allocate different cores to specific portions of the emulator. On top of that, you're repeating the same stuff over and over that's already been said by other ppl which still isn't the point. It's obvious that you don't know anything about the emulator so just stop. Me saying ok, that's enough, and you still talking trash means that you are 'perpetuating' the thread. Not me. If it wasn't clear the first time: End this thread, close it, or trash it because I can find answers elsewhere.

Oh, nevermind. I see. You're the guy that likes getting in the last word. Okay, go ahead. I won't talk again in this post (for real this time). Have fun.

Hey Shinra358, I agree with you these guys won't help you but rather just talk and talk. They seem to not know that they are talking to the mighty Shinra company from FF7. Awesome game A++ would do business with again.

As for your problem with PCX2, have you tried restarting the computer, I find that it helps solve many of my day to day problems(even in real life!). Good Luck with everything man and report back if that fixed your problem!
