    Hi all

I have been looking at the Obsidian PC P775TM1 which cost about 3200 EUR when incl the excellent 4k display, 8700k, 32GB DDR4 as well as the GTX1070.

On PC Specialist, the same laptop (Octane V, 17 inch) is around 350-400 EUR cheaper.

This makes me wondering, are they really the same laptops, is there a difference in quality and service and are they both "official" Clevo partners/resellers?

Apart from that, the Eurocom Sky X7C is around 2600 incl. Calibration.

Again, as far as I am aware, these are all the same laptops, and Eurocom isn't an "official" reseller, but the difference is huge. This let's lets me, as a consumer, believe that there should be other differentiators.

    Thanks!

The difference is the services the reseller provides in most cases. Also the "starting price" is different because the PC specialist starts with an i3 CPU and 4GB of RAM. Also Obsidian state they DELID and and LM the CPU for you (built into CPU price).

I wouldn't get any Clevo LGA laptop that isn't from a Prema partner, or if you don't have the skills to unlock the BIos and Firmware yourself. A few of the partners will ship and waranty to the UK like HIDevolution

It is only showing Clevocenter in this area, however I thought Schenker and Obsidiam were Prema partners and not Clevocenter. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Eurocom is doing Delid as well as far as I noticed in their configuration.

I'm not 100% sure if that map is up to date. I remember there being at least 1 UK partner. Resellers can loose the partnership (Mythlogic did). @Prema would definitively know who his partners are. But summoning him can be hard ;). @Mr. Fox may know

Are you looking at Eurocom Canada or Europe? While they share the name, they are only very loosely affiliated.

The map is current as far as I am aware. Mythlogic and Eurocom were dropped from the Prema Partner program.

Obsidian is not a Prema Partner. John has explained why in another thread, and it has nothing to do with Prema or their desire to be one.

To my knowledge, Schenker and Sager have never been and maybe cannot be due to their relationships with Clevo. I do not know any details on that, just guessing.

You are right, I was looking in the CA website. The EU website really sucks and is way more expensive...

The issue is that both PCSpecialist and Obsidian don't offer the 4k version with G-Sync. Schenker does, but their laptops are overpriced compared to the other brands. The service is excellent, but the 400-500 EUR difference is too much if you ask me..

4k screens for laptops are overrated IMO. We don't have enough hardware yet to run games @constant high fps at that resolution, plus windows scaling isn't great, plus laptop's screens are too small for such a high resolution.

Then if you plan to lower the resolution you'll face the non-native resolution blurry image..

I read somewhere the 4k screen has better colours though...

I will be using the laptop mainly for 4k 10bit video editing, photo editing and 3d animations. Hence, a large color space and good color accuracy are important. The 1080p does not offer this. Lastly, the software above offers scaling and I can get a lot more in my 4k screen compared to 1080p. :)

Sounds like you are part of the niche that can make use of it.

    Actually same build:
    1 x P775TM - GTX 1070 8GB
Delidded Liquid Metal Desktop CPU Intel i7 8700K (unlocked)
Upgrade LCD to 4K IPS (non G-SYNC)
    32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2400Mhz
    Intel Wifi AC9260
    RGB Keyboard

    Our Price 2688€
    PC Specialist Price: 2543€

    That is 145€ difference.

Maybe your price difference was bigger because you did not select the warranty for 2 years parts (which is standard in our case).

Where goes those 145€ you might ask?
    - We have our own unique software suite with Updater Software (drivers and bios), Keyboard LED, Fan Control and Control Station (follow my signature)
    - We have our own tuned BIOS
    - We delid our CPUs and use Liquid Metal which means we are responsible for it´s warranty, if they die it goes out of our pocket.

Those should be the main points.

Many thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated!

My configuration comes a bit closer to 3000 EUR as I will be looking at the 970 Evo 512GB HDD and the Killer Network card.

Would it be possible to get the 4k with G-Sync like through mysn.de?

This would be amazing for gaming (20% of the laptop's purpose) and I absolutely hate Nvidida Optimus. ;)

There is no NVIDIA optimus in this model, does not matter what screen you select.
I think i can actually get you that screen, can you mail us through the website?

I don't really have time for calls unfortunately, hence prefer to ask important questions by email.

As a potential customer I just hope to get a reply as soon as possible or at least a confirmation that they are working on feedback.

For the moment, my question are product related and important before I make a first decision.

Once I received the answers I am looking for I will most likely follow up with a second email regarding the company's guarantee and service.

Based on all the answers, I will make a decision whether or not to buy the laptop at ObsidianPC.

Personally, I think 2600-3000 is a lot of money for a laptop, hence I take my time and want to make sure to choose the right product from the right company. :)

    I'm only now seeing this.
We usually have a clear rule that no mail goes unanswered. Unfortunately some times our replies go to spam, even tough we follow all good email practices.
Sorry if I'm reaching out too late. Let me know if you did get a reply or not.
