    Hello,

I've been roaming these forums since the GPU of my P150HM died which was in early summer 2014. I've never really found a proper awnser to my question. And since I have a proper job now and can afford new parts I'll ask them

    - My P150HM ran on a 6970M. It got really hot, up to 90-105c while working, 70 while idle.
I want to get a new graphics card, but I've read loads of things about adjusting the bios. How hard is this?

    - What GPU would be most durable?

    - Where should I buy my GPU?

    - Is it work replacing more parts? Or can I just put in a new GPU and does it work right away?

    - I couldn't get my GPU out properly, I can always ask my friend but I prefer learning it myself. Is there a proper video on how to do it without damaging the other parts (by yanking the GPU)

    Hi Froxes,

    Congrats on the job.

    - Flashing the BIOS isn't exceedingly difficult, but it is rather risky (a bad flash can render your computer unusable).

    - Well, that whole generation seems a little precarious. An NVidia 4xxM or 5xxM would probably be more reliable, albeit more expensive and a little more involved in replacing.

    - I'll leave "where to buy from" suggestions up to other people that have experience in purchasing these.

    - There will likely be some work on your end, but it really depends on what you end up purchasing.

    - Have you already scouted YouTube? There are a few disassembly videos there.

I'd generally recommend reaching out to the company where you bought your computer. Getting it from the manufacturer/ reseller might be a bit more trusted than buying it from someone off of ebay. At least it might be worth the time to price check and shop around.

Hi Froxes and welcome to NBR. :hi:

Your best bet and cheapest is a clevo 7970m flashed with enduro off vbios. Read this thread from the wonderful and helpful Jaybee :)
Best bet to buy from member here on NBR who can do the flash for you so for you it is simple plug and play. You'll need to do thermal pasting of course and I'd recommend ICD7.

If you need any further help/questions just ask we are here to help :)

    Thanks!

    Alright I'll check those out.
I'm fine with putting in some work if it revives the laptop.
Yes I've actually found some good videos, thanks!

The company where I bought my laptop doesn't sell or purchase laptop GPUs, like pretty much all companies in the Netherlands (let me know if anyone knows one that does)

Thank you! I'll read the thread. I've done thermal pasting on my laptop and desktop before, shouldn't be a problem. I'll check the marketplace here and probably make a thread there by the end of the month.
Can most people (on the marketplace) flash the bios for me? I don't feel comfortable doing it.

Also can I buy Alienware GPUs? Or will they not work or do they need to be flashed?

Edit: http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgradepricelist(1,277)ec would this be worth it? Or is it extremely overpriced?

Alienware or dell gpus unfortunately don't with clevo notebooks. Conflict on ec bios.
I think that link is over 4 years old and those prices are quite expensive. Need to be patient with this purchase and need someone to flash the vbios for you unless you buy it and do the jaybee blind flash as per that thread.

    Good luck.

If you want to max out your specs with the P150HM the GTX 680m or the HD 7970m is the way to go!

If you go with Nvidia make sure that the P150EM vBios is on it: 80.04.29.00.01 + modded (inf) Drivers ( laptopvideo2go), otherwise it won't work. With AMD only the Rev 1.2 Cards will work AND following @jaybee83's thread.

    Happy hunting!

Edit: As you are/were sporting the 6970m, you will have Problems with the GTX 680m as the original heatsink won't fit. So, if you go with Nvidia you have to order the proper heatsink for it.

What Jaybee83 said  and continue that with this thread.

Furthermore, if you do go with the 680m and I am typing this message on the P170HM with the 680m(see sig) make sure you use that vbios in that thread link.

It's a great card the 680m and the 4GB v the 2GB on the 7970m is very useful with the bigger open map games eg GTA V, witcher 3 fallout 4. The extra 2GB vram is certainly helpful with newer titles but then again the 7970m is no slouch either and bang for buck is an excellent gpu card.

Both cards @28nm die process are very cool when used with ICD7... 28-38C idle & around 64-78C heavy load.

    Good luck.

Yeah, that's true! 4Gigs of vRAM is a huge advantage, if you're playing demanding games like that!

So the 680m might be a tad more "future-proof" but is unfortunately more expensive.

I probably will from the shop you advised me. Can they flash the vBIOS? Also can I change it myself with a broken GPU?

Alright! Was looking for the heatsink advice. Thanks!

I haven't been able to find a 7970m, I would prefer this one cuz it's a bit less hassle. I don't feel comfortable changing the vBIOS myself as I don't have any experience in it.

When I get a new card I want to do the aluminium tape mod right away to keep it as cool as possible and make it last. Do you guys advice this mod, or does it have bad sides? Also any laptop coolers you guys advice, as I won't be moving my laptop a lot.

Edit: Would baking be a temporary (month or 2-3) fix? http://imgur.com/HRH2gDS (my bios, the lines are artifacts, when I boot windows the windows loading screen has 2 huge blue bars, after it's done it shows a black screen)

Again thanks for all the help and advice guys :D Really appreciate it
