I see Sony, Acer and a couple of others are going to be offering Penryn's.

Justin have you heard any conversations of such for Sager's?

Perhaps about the time Nvidia gets there act together with the SLI drivers

    the Penryn's will be avail.

The Penryn will be available on laptop processor based Sager models once they are released which should be sometime later in January, or it could possibly be as late as February.

We would expect the same for the NP9262 as well but cannot say when.

No one is already offering it.

Watch for model changes with Penryn.

If you guys can get a hold of pc world magazine from last month, they did test with the penryn quad extreme, compared to the santa rosa model and there was hardly any difference. I'll see if I can find the link in the magazine today.

There is a difference man, at least in power consumption. This and this is good news for D901C fans.

Even if it was the same speed exactly(Which its not), it would still have much improved power consumption and produce less heat because it's 45nm.

According to the above screenshots I snagged from Wikipedia, it should just drop right into a 579x/926x if it has the Socket P CPU type.

Whether or not that can actually happen would be anyone's guess.

Boogieman, that is a great chart you posted, quite informative about a variety of chips. Nicely done.

Looks like the up coming Montivena chipset is what will allow the Penryn to really shine.

I have a 9300 Insprion that has been wonderful but long in the tooth so a friend will get this and I will look forward to a Sager with functioning SLI drivers and a Penryn.

Atricles from the up coming CES about new Notebooks will be interesting.

Thanks for the compliment sunny. Vista's snipping tool and uploader.ws works wonders with the quote 'a picture if worth a thousand words'.

now that sager has announced penryns available in their models it brings up another question... since the T8300 (Penryn 2.2GHz w/3MB cache) costs the same as the T7500 (2.2GHz w/4MB cache) will the Penryn edge out the 7500 even with a smaller cache? Or would I be better off with the T9300?

The Penryn T8300 is 2.4GHz so it will probably edge out the T7500 at 2.2GHz even with the 1MB difference in L2 Cache.

The T9300 at 2.5GHz and 6MB L2 Cache will probably be worth the extra $85.00.

As far as PcMark/3DMark/actual testing, I don't think anyone will know for sure for a few weeks until a consumer/reseller gets their hands on an actual machine equipped with Penryn, considering the processors were released two days ago.

I'll have mine in two weeks (my 5791 was getting upgraded to a 5792 @ Sager in CA, Justin offered the Penryn upgrade at a good time while it's out there) and I'll try to get an extensive review out before the end of January.

The Q's will not work in the M570RU. The M570RU only takes mobile processors.
