Just got a np5796 from xoticpc. First off i d like to say that this was my first time buying from them and they were amazing in their speed and helping me out with a particular order problem.

    p8600 @ 2.4 ghz (can u overclock?)
    2gb ddr3
2gb usb drive with readyboost enabled
    9800m gt
    vista premium 64bit
    rest default

3dmark06 score. Between 9100 and 9200 usually ran around 10 times

CS source performance: runs on 1680x1050 2aa 8af. Never goes under 60 fps unless in a large server with large amount of action but still never goes under 40fps

TF2 performance: similar to css (same engine) but needs to be run at a lower resolution i went with 1440/900 2aa 8af and it ran fine most of the time over 60fps occationally below this on areas like looking out on tfort over the bridge

COD4 performance: Runs on 1280x800 everything max accept texture settings all on high and 2aa. Most maps run at atleast 60fps with a few dips into the 40s while other maps have more frequent drops. Maybe a new driver will fix the performance issues cause it does run alittle slow. Anyone else got some numbers for this game?

Use a LV2G driver, any 177.xx series driver. I play COD4 maxed out @ WUXGA.

well, the 9800m gt isn't quite a 8800m gtx. not the same amount of processor cores. the Laptopvideo2go drivers are better as they are modded to be better than the stock drivers from the manufactures most of the time. u shouls rly have more performance than that.

The 9800M GT has the exact same number of cores as the 8800M GTX.

Don't they both have 96 unified shaders? I think they are exactly the same except the manufacturing process (smaller on the 9800m gt)...

    Also
Nice framerates, can't wait for my laptop to arrive=).
If you can, try more games, and maybe a batterymark (I think that is how it's written) test

    Those scores seem fine actually.

If you disable some resources hogs, you would gain a few more hundreds:
    - system restore
    - drive indexing service
    - switch theme to classic mode (no aero)

Or you can use XP 32-bit to gain a bit more as well.

In any case, your scores seem fine for stock settings. Optimizing your OS a bit more would give you some more points... but as long as your games are running fine, there is no point.

Yes, if you are not plugged in, the system downclocks its most powerful components (namely CPU and GPU) to conserve batterylife.

You can bypass the CPU downclocking with RMclock, but the GPU cannot be bypassed through software.... yet.

And its not that great if you do play games on battery since it will only give you less than an hour of game time... which is not adequate IMO.

Maybe they ve released performance updates for it but idk. Anyways right now im about to go to college and am considering picking up ut3 or crysis any suggestions

UT3 is awesome. Some BB's are selling it for 19 bucks. I just got a BB customer appreication certificate for 10 bucks off purchase and bought UT3 for 9 bucks! Awesome.

VERY VERY FUN game - online multiplaeyr is awesome. Runs very well on an 8600gt ddr3 in xps 1530 I had so I'm sure the 9800gt will knock it out of the park.
