I going to buy the NP8662 and am trying to determine which screen I should get.
I prefer the matte finish, but am concerned about the performance hit the laptop would take; getting the higher res screen, particularly concerning gaming.
-
there is no huge performance difference since the videocard would be able to drive either resolutions nearly the same.
-
Alright. Thanks.
-
the difference can be noticeable, particularly in games like crysis. not so much in games like left 4 dead.
-
I beg to differ, lol. For anything but Crysis, 1920 x 1200 will run ok though.
-
crysis may be a poorly coded game, but the resolution difference for a 256-bit GPU like the GTX 260M/280M might not be too noticeable.. about 5-8FPS.

Yeah, 1680*1050 is way enough for a 15.4" screen. Basically, in terms of size, 1680*1050 looks as small on a 15.4" as 1920*1200 on a 17" screen. So don't sacrifice performance for something that will only increase eyestrain on such a small screen.

Yea i have the np8662 with the 1680 x 1050 screen and i have to say that 1680 x 1050 is just fine. 1920 x 1200 would be way too small especially on this screen. With the 1680 x 1050 resolution i still have to look up close. BTW games run amazing on this resolution so i wouldnt worry.
-
I also agree that 1680x1050 is the perfect resolution for a 15".
-
I have 1920x1200 on my 17" np9261 and that's on the edge for me. I think 1680x1050 is perfect for a 15".
-
i got the 1920 x1200 on my soon to be arriving 8662 because i also got the blu-ray drive. I plan on increasing the fonts, etc on my desktop and who knows...maybe I'll lower the res for some games (depends on the game).
-
Is the performance difference between a 1680x1050 screen playing at native resolution, and a 1920x1200 playing at 1680x1050 significant?
-
Wish I had the option to get a matte finish 1680x1050 screen.

I always use the max resolution 1920 x 1200 here, I read somewhere it's better for your screen as well. Sometimes I regret not going with the matte version though, if I try to use my puter outside on a nice day I can't see a dang thing unless it's getting dark enough.
-
Yeah I have the 1680 NP8662 and I'm telling you, if you get the 1900 x 1200, you would have to be sitting close to the laptop screen lol. It's already nice and small with a lot of desktop real estate.
-
I would like to get a matte finish 1680x1050, but alas I cannot.
Plus, I can adjust the OS and programs to accommodate the higher resolution.
Performance: 1680x1050 vs 1920x1200
