This is a petition to get clevo to support those of us who have just bought their flagship laptop the D900F by allowing us to upgrade to the new i7-980X that is due to come out in Q1 '10, I feel as im sure do the others that have purchased this laptop that we wanted the best performance available, clevo delievered and i hope that clevo will update the BIOS to allow for the new hexacore processor, it is doable as the CPU is at the same TDP (130W) as the current i7's.
I believe that clevo/OEM should include a form of overclocking in their next BIOS update as we as the customers accept that overclocking is done at our own risk, if we are willing to make that choice then we should be allowed to do so.
Show your support and lets get this update included for our D900F's and not have clevo bring out yet another D900x model, if this is the case i feel i will seriously consider not using clevo laptops in the future given their lack of support and longevity.
By the way, as the i7-980X will keep its 130W thermal spec, while having 2 extra cores and additional Cache, it actually brings the total TDP per core of a mere 21.7W! This means the overclockability of the new chip will be simply amazing and far superior to the current i7-975. More than ever, we need overclocking capabilities on the 900F!

I'm in 101% all the way!

I'm with you!
Hexacore/hexcore.. has the collective internet mind decided on the appropriate term yet? -

Im pretty sure its Hexacore man more cores=higher BarsWF socres
-
I also gave you a hit! Good luck.

May the new BIOS update support the new i7-980X CPU, overclocking and TurboBoost once and for all finally to make the 900F was it has always meant to be from day one! This thing runs cool with the i7-975 CPU at full usage. Clevo did an outstanding job in the design of the heat management of this laptop. It screams and begs to be pushed further and take advantage of all the features and potential of the Extreme Processors it so willingly takes in!
-
Guys , you can give up. Clevo resellers and individual builder companies are going to do so. Every Core i7 (supposedly Core i9) six-core CPUs will be
compatibile with D900F. Until they are 130W and LG1366 compliant there is no doubt about it.
When these CPUs are released, you will get what you deserveTrust me...
The real petition should be: FULL SUPPORT of HD58XX with CF option in M98NU in MXM 3.0B -

Jealousy ehh... haha

Lets make this happen!

3 'no votes'? Bunch of jokers.
Count me in. Clevo have always been at the front of the line for the newest stuff so why stop now?..
In addendum to this, their next 15" range onwards should also come with unlocked bios. Most people investing in boutique laptops know what they're getting themselves into when they mess about with such novelties. -
jupapri, pasoleatis, Soviet Sunrise.. U guys are on my list of Rock Stars!...whatever...
-
Sager can't say for sure whether the i7-980X will be supported or not, but it is at least a strong possibility with it being within the same TDP range and using Socket 1366. As we get closer to the processor's release, we should know more.
-
I found quite satisfactory running my programs with a normal q9450. In fact I keep it quite lots of time downclocked at 2.0 Ghz. I will exchange my laptop with a D900F when the 32nm proc come, but having an overclockable i7 is going to give marginal improvements with lots of heat and noise and lots of extra bucks.
For a real petition go to a site similar to this http://www.petitiononline.com/. I doubt that anyone from the company take seriously the petition on this site, and only forum members can vote.
Edit: Anyway good luck wth the petition, maybe both of us can get what they want.

All the more reason to have ocing in ths BIOS
Ill take my chances -
The i7-980X begs for overclocking... actually the term overclocking is wrong. These CPUs come out of the assembly lines basically underclocked. If a CPU can easily do 20 to 30% above stock speeds its because it being released at a much lower number than it should. Even the current i7-975 is basically a 3.60GHz to 3.80GHz CPU rereleased at 3.33GHz. Let's have proper ability to push these processors like they are asking to! Come on Clevo!

Yeah sign the petition guys, I was just there and signed it, and I don't even have a Clevo anymore. People need to take this seriously, one of the big reasons I got the M17x was because it allowed BIOS over clocking of extreme and non extreme processors, this is a really big deal. Clevo needs to understand by locking things down they are only furthering their disadvantage in the high end laptop market.
It's up to us to at least attempt to get their attention on this, and with only 3 signatures we need to work a little harder here. -
Where do I sing at http://www.petitiononline.com? Is there a direct link to the petiiton? I cant find any results trying to search...

Ill update the OP with BIG letters
-
We need to make this happen one way or the other!!!
-
OK, I'm number 7 (sigh)
-
Hmmm..., what makes you guys think that Clevo is NOT going to do this by default?
-
Firstly, i'm sure the 980X willl be a drop-in the d900f. Seeing as it will be compatible with the X58 chipset.
Secondly...
$200 says you won't be able to run even one core of the 980X at those speeds in the D900F. 4.0ghz, maybe...definitely not 5 or 6...Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
I would even settle for the stock speeds..... -
One of the stories I read at XTreview states that the 980X (LGA1366) will work on the X58 chipset AFTER a BIOS update. If this is true, then a "drop-in" of the new CPU will not work. Sager will have to support this by making such an update available. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Come on guys, 8 signatories we need more than that,
And as tjp888 has said there will need to be a BIOS update for the chip so we need this update and while theyre at it they can add OCing -
Signed. Good Luck!
-

Come on guys 10 signatories! Theres 37 users in the "Yes" on the poll, help us out!
-
I voted so don't worry this processor is amazing, i am thinking about getting this machine.
-
I'm in! Hope they allow the OCing....
-
Actually, to me it looks like there will very little extra help for the current D900F. Its successor might get all the juice (980x + 5870 and maybe even sata3 and usb3).
Tough luck, but I'm crossing fingers for you! -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
My 980-X problems are probably windows, so there is hope yet
-
If the successor to the d900f gets the juice, that means there will be a bios ready for the 1366 socket mobo. If they somehow lock out current owners, they can kiss return business good by!
-
I voted yes. I also believe cars should have no seat belts or air bags and explode on impact. If you want to people to be safe, make life more dangerous.
