Can anyone who has purchased a Clevo describe the quality / usefulness of the standard carrying case? Is it adequate for occasional use or is it so weak you wouldn't trust it to protect your jewel?
This pic is from 2007, is the one I would get with a new Clevo the same or similar?

i actually use my carrying case for work. Its okay but i wrap my notebook in a sleeve and then the carrying case to get some extra protection. i carry my laptop, harddrive and all the cables with it no problem

The case is just that: a case. No frills, no extravagant amounts of space. You only get 2 compartments; 1 for the notebook itself, and another for power brick and misc. accessories. That's it. Works well, though. It can handle a lot of weight, despite its cheap look.
If you plan on hauling around a ton of gear, consider a real backpack. I now use an Everki Titan EKP120, and it is one awesome backpack. It fits my D901C with about 1.5 inches to spare, which is impressive. -
The case is a bit of a tight fit when putting in and removing the laptop. I always worry that the teeth of the zipper would actually catch onto and scratch the finish of the laptop therefore I eventually moved to a caselogic which offered much better padding at little increase in bulk.
