    Hi everyone.

Sorry if I'm repeating a post made by somebody else on this subject. I've been away from the forums for a few weeks.

Like I have mentioned before in threads (both here and on the Alienware forum), I have experienced pixel problems before in my first ever laptop which was a 17" Clevo chassis. For everybody who is experiencing a problem with pixels, I feel your pain. :(

But I'm here to help. :)

Clevo's are renowned for having problems with stuck pixels, which is why companies that offer a Clevo chassis tend to give you an option to go with a No Dead Pixel Guarrantee (usually for 30 days, and should also cover stuck pixels). If you don't go with this little insurance policy, you will find yourself having to pay out about £300+ to get the screen replaced on a 17", or waiting until you have the industry standard of FIVE stuck pixels before being able to get it replaced by a company.

Even one stuck pixel isn't nice and is VERY distracting. We shouldn't ever get such a blemish on a brand new machine, right?

First, let me clear something up... A lot of people confuse a stuck pixel with a dead pixel. Dead pixels are unlit and are clearly visible against a white or very light background. Stuck pixels are commonly either a red, green, or blue hue, and they often seem to pulsate and glow to the naked eye, or appear permanently on. They are seen against dark or black backgrounds. "Hot" pixels are permanently on and are usually white.

If you have a stuck pixel, you have a fair chance in fixing it. The solution I am about to suggest didn't work for me unfortunately, but it has worked for many others.
A technician from ROCK suggested that I tried the following first:

    1) Turn your computer off.

    2) Boot it up while holding a small, dry, lint cleaning cloth (or other soft material) to the screen with your fingertip directly over it on the area where there is a stuck pixel... applying only a few pounds of pressure (enough to see a bit of a dip in the screen around your fingertip).

    3) Release the pressure and lift off when you see the backlight kick in on the screen as the computer boots up.

    4) You may need to repeat this a few times before giving it up.

If you are unsuccessful with the above, try the following pixel fix looping software:

    http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php

Have a go at pixel massaging too. There is a link on the above site that explains how to do this.

Hope I have helped in some way. Please let me know if any of the above suggestions worked for anyone.

EDIT: Pixel massaging is the best way to get rid of dead pixels, as massaging can push the conductive liquid inside your screen into the unlit space.

thanks for the info Gunsmith Cat but hopefully i wont need it.
so just to clarify, if you have below 5 dead pixels you need the 30 day pixel cover. but if you have more than 5 then you are covered by your normal warranty.

No, what I was suggesting is that everyone should really opt for the No Dead Pixel guarrantee on a Clevo so that you can return it within the specified time period to get the screen replaced/serviced free of charge if you get a pixel problem.

If you don't opt for the optional cover you usually have to pay a high price to get these screens replaced if you want it replaced with less than 5 dead/stuck pixels present... because I was told that the industry standard for replacing a screen under warranty with a pixel problem is that you must have at least 5 dead/stuck pixels.

I've used this software with excellent results many times. I don't know why it's not mentioned here more often.

    http://udpix.free.fr/

It basically just puts so much change on the stuck pixel that it shocks it out of being stuck. Pretty nifty.

EDIT: just got to the end of your post to see similar software posted. Oh well. Nice tut on fixing all dead pixels, not just the m860tu

Or most sellers have a 30 days return policy. You'll lose your shipping, have to ship it back and pay for the shipping again so they send you a new computer but if you don't take express shipping, that generally cost less than $200. For my part, I took 3year warranty + dead pixel. In that case, it only cost $100. Do it worth it...depends if you can afford waiting few weeks to get a new computer.

No, my last (and very first gaming latop) was from ROCK. They have since gone into receivership and are struggling last I heard. I wouldn't order from them again anyway. I ordered the new 15.4" Clevo from Kobalt on the NBR group buy. Yet to receive mine though. :(

I wouldn't say "Clevo's are renowned for having problems with stuck pixels, which is why companies that offer a Clevo chassis tend to give you an option to go with a No Dead Pixel Guarrantee (usually for 30 days, and should also cover stuck pixels)". Clevo doesn't actually build the screens they buy them from companies like LG. Samsung, etc...
