I realize I've got absolutely no posts here, but I've been lurking for quite a bit. I'll get right down to it and skip the nonsense.
My father and I are going splits on a laptop for university and after reading all the positive things I've heard about Sager notebooks I've got my eye on the NP8660. I was thinking of ordering it from xoticpc due to their reputation of great customer service and the fact that I'm a canuck.
My issue is this... My father needs convincing that a Sager is the way to go as he is pro Dell. He has it set in his head that Sager will go under within the next year despite knowing they've been kicking for so long. And that xotic will not honor their warranty or take months to repair a potential issue if it arises.
I'd really rather not have to lug around an Inspiron with some onboard graphics and hip colored faceplates. Any any any help would be greatly appreciated.

no matter you order from sager or xoticPC, the laptops are always ship direct from sager to your house. and so is the warranty, you ship your machine directly to sager to fix.
-
Tell you dad to look st these forums.....Ive got a Dell now and I recommend Sager all the time
-
I've got both.
And tell you what, Sager support is direct, personal, fast and reliable. -

Just show him these Customer Satisfaction ratings:
Dell.com

PowerNotebooks.com -
same here owned both sold my sager though.. but i do plan to buy another one.. i really cant say anything bad about either one though as my experience this time with dell so far has been great.. but sager was awesome to deal with they took care of me and i had 0 issues in dealing with them and justin at xotic is awesome to deal with and he will take care of you well after the sale take it from us that have bought from him before
-
But I also want a Sager so bad -
Thank you, thank you. I appreciate it. These are some of the best forums I've seen in a while.
Just a quick question, will powernotebooks ship to Canada?
Thanks... -
PowerNotebooks only ships to US address (including APO/FPO), so Canada is right out, unfortunately.
-
-
XoticPC does ship to Canada, but you will get hit with a PST/HST fee by your provincial government when it arrives. Mine cost me roughly $320.
-
Whats your Move in date? Getting the NP8660 might be a bit close.

Sager was founded in 1985, just a few months after Dell. They're both established companies, and I don't foresee either one going belly up anytime soon, even in a bad economy. In four and a half years dealing with them, I have never seen Sager fail to honor a valid warranty claim. Turn around time for warranty repairs is typically one to two weeks, sometimes shorter if the problem is minor, sometimes longer if there are parts shortages.

Dell: 4.15/10 There are over 70 pages (out of 92) filled with unsatisfied customers.
Xoticpc: 9.94 / 10 Less than one page of unsatisfied customers
Powernotebook: 9.97 / 10 Less than one page(out of 78) of unsatisfied customers.
haha Dell 2.98.10 for last 6 months, maybe someday dell well care, as for now, stick to the companys that do care.
Just like if you go to a Mcdonalds, youll get a cheap piece of (maybe) meat, you go to a family ownd ma and pa burger joint, you get USDA baby, not to mention real bacon.
dont get stuck with the fakon, come gets some bacon...
haha ok that was corney. -
just show yr dad the sager thread and read up on all the satisfied customers' review, posts and compliments? i think that should be enough to win him over to sager's side. or else, bring him to a page where all the unsatisfied dell customers are and see what he says
-
No, I like it; it's got a good ring to it - that should be the unofficial Sager slogan:
Sager - don't get stuck with the facon, come gets some real bacon...! -

Actually, Sager's in warranty turn around time rarely exceeds 5 business days and is more often around 3.
Out of warranty turn around time is typically one to two weeks, and sometimes longer if there are parts shortages just as JoeNewberry says. -
Hi Warbaby
This is what i would do. Think of some technical question for your Dad. Then have him call Dell and ask. Then Xoticpc and repeat the question. He'll get it.
Pete
PS. Then have him wait a day and repeat the calls, and see what happens. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Now there is a great idea Peter2150 !
I would imagine Warbaby would also want to do the same with PowerNotebooks.com
Sorry guys...I just couldn't resist trying to be "fair and balanced" -

haha Donald, nice.
However, I agree. Give all three companies a call, you will find at Dell you will speak to a new person everytime you call; and they still dont know what your talking about.
Now powernotebooks and xotic a call, you'll probally speak to the same person(with a great understanding of the english vocabulary) everytime you call there, and you will get your questions answered, correctly.
Just one more thought, how many Dell CEO/Employees do you see on here speaking directly to us, the consumer? -
To tell why I suggested this, when I bought my first of several new desktops I ran across Velocity Micro which had an excellent review rating, but I'd never heard of them.
To test, I made up 3 very technical questions and decided to call 3 times to test. Also tested with HP and Dell.
Result.
1st call to HP, 4 hours on hold, never talked to a human
1st call to Dell 3 hours on hold, asked first question, got wrong answer.
2nd call to Dell gave up after 1 hour on hold.
Velocity Micro 3 calls 3 correct answers and total phone time for all 3 calls 10 minutes. 5 machines later no regrets.
My experience with Donald at PNB was the same. And oh what a machine(NP9262)

Wow the response to this thread is amazing. Thank you all.
There's no doubt in my mind that Sager has quality laptops. I also enjoy dealing with smaller establishments due to their genuine customer concern. You don't get that kind of thing with mega corps -
Any luck convincing your father?

You can always go with the fact that a Dell uses Clevo. Also there isn't a 15.4' or 15' laptop that dell offers that can match the Np8660. Unless your farther considers Alienware to be a Dell in which case just show him the thread topics in the Alienware forum and it will speak for itself.
If you go 17' the NP5796 is a smaller and has some portability, but the XPS M1730 is huge.
Plea for help
