so my newly purchased x7200 won't startup. i was playing battlefiled 3 and suddenly the system shut down. after this whenever i push the power button, the fans would run and the lights would be lit, but after a while the system would shut down, and turn on on its own, and this process would go on and on. the screen would not light up.
has this ever happened to anyone before?
im pretty sure the reason why the system shuts down in the first place has something to do with the psu. because this happned before. that's when i was playing game and all of a sudden the screen dimmed and fps dropped drastically. i noticed even thought i had it plugged in, the psu wasn't working, the green light was off. i unplugged it, plugged it, and everything went back to normal.
this time the battery was taken out because i didn't realize that could happen again, and i don't like having the battery on while using the psu. so this time i guess the shutdown messed up something in the system.
is there anything i could do? people from xoticpc please help me out here.
by the way, even though the system's shut down now, both the power and the battery indicator are yellow. i don't think they were like this before.
-
it bothers a quite a bit that no even the sager logo would appear, the whole screen wouldn't show anything. i couldn't even get into bios.
pleae help me out. -
remove battery and mains power and hold power button down for 10-15 seconds.
then try turning on with only battery.
then try with only mains.
report back. -
i noticed that compared to when the system was good, it now takes about 2 seconds longer for the lights anf the fans to turn on. notmally they turn on immediately after the power button is pushed. also, just before the system shuts down automacitally, just to startup again, the power indicator would turn from green to yellow. i don't know what yellow means.
-
with main power, it's the same story. the power indicator stays yellow. -
only a guess but my guess is knackered psu
like you said pressing power turns lights on instantly except when on battery where there is a second delay.
so if youve got a delay then it sounds like your power brick is fried and your battery has run down.
also have you got a disc in the drive or any usb dongles plugged in. ive heard this can delay startup and cause black screen.
if you can manage to log in try downloading battery care (in sig below) to keep an eye on the battery. -
orange is battery charging and blinking orange The Battery has Reached
Critically Low Power Status
you can get the user manual > MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (this is a uk model number but it is the 7200) -
so it's the psu. at least the system itself isn't screwe'd.
it seems there's no way i can log in now until the psu's fixed or replaced, since battery is low too.
thanks for all your help,MrDJ! -

which light is yellow as in the manual most of them are blue or green.
full list on page 1-7 if its the power button on the right then i have no idea. could it be in sleep mode or hibernation.
the only one that says static yellow means battery charging.
might be worth leaving computer off for a hour or so with mains plugged in. then remove plug and see if it will start.
it could well be its somehow charging the battery but the psu wont run the computer.
these are all guesses by the way and its trial and error.
i would contact your support tomorrow for their advise as they will be able to send out a new psu.
good luck. -

^^yup. if the yellow light is on then it could well be charging. i know its a beast of a lappy so maybe leave it charging for 2 hours.
another thing you could try is keys Fn & F4 to see if its in sleep mode. -
tried that, nothing. i'll leave it as it is for now, nothing else i can do. thanks!

I am having almost the exact same problem except my fans aren't even turning on. My laptop is only 3 months old. I currently own a malibal P170HM. With battery it the bluetooth light just shows up and turns off and sometimes if i am lucky i get the occasional lighted up screen. I installed a program that lets my track the temp of my gpu and at the time it was only 65 degrees celsius. Sadly i cant contact malibal today because they are closed. Any solutions??
-
contact them tomorrow or you might get a reply on here as they are always about.
for a 3 month old lappy i dont think it would be a temps problem.
you can find more temperature monitoring software in my sig below but it wont help if you cant even power on properly. -
At the time was using MSI afterburner to measure my computers GPU temps and also I did notice something pecular. I play a game called crossfire and at right before shut off it was getting 32fps and usually when its on battery it gets around 60fps. The current graphics card is a gtx 485m. When i play battlefield 3 my core temps are usually around 85 degrees celsius.

not a good idea to game on battery especially demanding games like B3
85c on a gpu is fine.
herea a rough guide on what to look out for.

My laptop cant do sli in sager brands it would be the same as a NP8170
-
this EXACT THING IS happening to me. Mine is fairly new 2 (3 days of use so far).... is sager just sending us faulty 7280's?
-
also, i wonder if you have sli enabled? my guess is that my psu is faulty, that's why main power can't light the system up, and since i have sli enabled, battery alone can't do that either, thus the problems i described earlier.
im going to take one of the graphics card out and see if my theory's correct. -
Did you buy dual adapters with your X7200? Maybe it just doesn't draw enough power for it to work properly?
-
-
i used the laptop for several days and it's all good. but it could be that this psu is somewhat unstable and when running graphically intense games like bf3 in sli mode it fails.
-
I bought my 8170 back in May. I also have the 485 GPU.
On the 30th, I booted up and it sounded like it was booting OK but the screen was black. I tried again but it wouldn't post anymore. I poked around underneath and tried again and it worked normally.
That night, I tried to boot again but it was the same problem. I poked around again to no avail. I reseated the HD and it came back and booted fine only my registry was screwed up so I used system restore to roll back. Everything was good, I even played Skyrim for hours with no troubles (plugged in of course) but after I brought my system to work this morning, I get the black screen again.
After the first attempt, the system won't post. I press the power, the wireless and HD lights come on and go off again and the system just sits there with nothing but the power light. (There are 2 green lights on the front). I tried reseating the HD again but it doesn't work.
Surprisingly, the HD is not held in by screws but just by the pressure of the cover. This doesn't seem to be enough for a laptop that gets carried around.
EDIT: If left long enough, I hear the windows startup sound but the screen is still black. The HD light is also thrashing quite a lot. -

I tried all combinations of battery/power without any effect. I'm sure my issue isn't with power. I think something has worked loose but don't know how to check and my reseller is on holidays.
-
-
on my laptop i am thinking it is a failed power unit because the charging light wont even come on anymore to show its charging. So its not taking a charge
-
Its clevo in general guys cause i own a malibal and am experiencing the same deffects
-
Everything seems tight around the graphics card, I'm not going to try pulling it out to see. Still no screen.
Reseated the hard drive and unplugged my alien G9 mouse. It works. ???
Is this just an intermittent thing that eventually comes good, is it this badly designed, free floating hard drive or is it the mouse that I've been using for months without trouble, suddenly having a conflict? -
i took out one of the 580m's and tried to boot with battery onle. the problem remains. so the laptop itself could have been damaged by the sudden power outage. this is bad news. i don't suppose there's anyting i could do to fix this. i'll have to RMA it which ruins the rest of my holidays

My supplier, who I must say has excellent service, sent my laptop off to get tested. They found a burnt resistor (or something like that) on the motherboard which sometimes prevents the graphics card from receiving enough voltage to boot up.
I'm still in warranty and waiting for my new motherboard to arrive.
Pleae help me, guys!
