Hi,
I'd be very very grateful if anyone out there can help in laptop world, I have the Clevo Notebook D27ES which ticks along very well on mains adapter with no problems at all, the problem is it no longer charges the battery, the battery LED doesn't even light up any more, in Power Options in XP Control Panel it states "Battery Level" "UNKNOWN" and it says "Battery Not Present" ???? I've tried everything I can think of, It powers up with or without the battery in place but only on Mains adapter power, I've even tried my friends battery who has the same clevo notebook but it's still the same, Their battery and notebook is the same age as mine 3 years+, I love my Clevo and would be gutted to give up on it just yet, Should I buy a new battery or is there something I can reset or fix ??? I've cleaned the battery terminals with alcohol to make sure I get a good connection.
Many thanks in advance
Any help would be much apreciated

Just before this incident, for how long you were able to go on a charge? I'm asking because on my last laptop the battery went very week and a charge could hold only 20 minutes instead of the couple of hours.
It could possibly be dead. Especially if the laptop is working fine on AC. -
So when you tried your friends battery it still didn't work in your laptop?
But the battery works for his laptop correct? -
Yes this is correct, My battery was very weak and over the last few weeks could barely hold a charge that would last 15 mins untill it gave up all together, my friends battery works fine in his notebook and lasts approx 1 hour, but when I put it in my notebook is still isnt recognised or present in power options? its as if my dead battery has told my notebook its dead so my machine doesnt look for one anymore?
Many Thanks to you both for the replies

Doing some research on the forums I found a problem with the Sony battery that gave the same error you're having. See here for information.
It seems that it was a battery problem.
The thing is that I don't think it's a battery problem in your case. If your friends battery works in his laptop but not in yours then it's something to do with the connection.
I don't think your dead battery would tell your computer to stop searching for a battery. If you put in a new battery (or your friend's working battery in thise case) it should work fine. Since it isn't working then that makes me think it's a problem with the computer and its connections. It could be that the contacts on your mother board are damaged.
I don't know if using a dead battery (since you were only getting 15 minutes of battery life you were due for a new battery) could have damaged your computer.
Calling the support from where you purchased your laptop would probably be the best thing to do. I'm sorry I can't be much help. -
Hi again,
Thanks for taking the time it's very much appreciated I can assure you, Here's an interesting development, today I decided to take apart my notebook and look at the connections, after reading other threads I had a look at the CMOS/BIOS button battery, So I removed it from the board by disconnecting the wiring connector and leaving it out for an hour, Surprisingly enough when I put it all back it now powers up on battery power alone !!! XP now see's my battery and gives me the % remaining and the battery make/type in control panel, Even though my battery still only lasts 10 mins like before so I've ordered a new 12v Battery today from Taiwan, seeing as it does charge back up now on mains with LED's merrily blinking correctly, It must have reset something in its little brain lol ?? Do you think it's just a coincidence ???
Thanks again to you both. I'll post any new developments.

Does anyone agree this may be just a coincidence or could this have been the problem ? -
The connector might have been loose. By disconnecting it and reconnecting it you might have fixed that little problem.
I don't think it reset anything on the mother board.
Is it still working now? If it is I wouldn't touch it.
By the way what's your avatar from? -
Thanks Thibault, Yes it's still working good as new, so I'm waiting for my new notebook battery from Taiwan and I'm good to go lol, My Avatar is a screen shot from the PS2 game "Shadow of the Colossus" one of the best games ever created for the PS2
-
Well seems like your problem is fixed.
Ah yes I knew I saw that picture somewhere. I never played it but I saw a few people play is in residence. My PS2 doesn't work anymoe. -
Hi again Thibault,I recieved my new notebook battery this week
BUT when I fit it into my laptop, it charges up fine, switches pc on and boots into windows no problems, holds a good charge and displays in the power options in control panel but the problem now is
after a couple of seconds of being switched on the keyboard, touch pad and buttons stop working completely so I have no option but to hold power button and power down, It's never ever done this before ??? any thoughts are much appreciated ? I tried the new battery in my friends notebook (same model) and it worked fine
Please help CLEVO D27ES NOTEBOOK Battery Wont Charge or Recognised
