Last night I was fed up with my internet problems so I went to see if I could update my network adapter drivers. I updated both the family controller and I believe the realtek 8188 wan drivers. it seemed to have fixed my internet issues and I went to sleep. This morning I wake up and my network shows no connections. So i go check my device manager and only the family controller is showing up under network adapters whereas before the realtek wan was in there as well. I've tried updating botht the realtek 8188 wan drivers and the realtek 8723 wan drivers just no but to no avail. Fn + F11 no longer turns on my wifi andd I have no connections while wireless. please help.

while you wait for advice try a system restore to before you updated the drivers.

also what laptop is it as certain models have to have the drivers loaded in a certain order or they will conflict.

    strange.
have you got the driver cd that came with the lappy. like mine the drivers have to be loaded in a certain order and i guess as you only updated one or two its some how put it out of sync.
which wifi card have you got and do you also have bluetooth? does fn + f12 turn that on ok.
looking at my user manual it says both have to be loaded. actually theres quite a few pages about different wifi set ups so it might be a good idea to check the user manual which will be on the driver cd.

does anyone know whether i should be downloading the rtl8723 driver or the rtl8188 driver? i know last night i updated using the 8188 driver and like i said it worked good the 30 mins before i went to sleep. then this morning i havent had wireless connection since nor any driver showing up under my network adapter. i just uninstalled all realtek wireless lan from my laptop and reinstalled the 8723 driver this time and nothing.

okay now i understand, you need both of them. well i uninstalled reatek wlan and then reinstalled both. nothing under network adapter still but when i press fn and f11 i get an on message on my display, although if u keep pressing it it just says on each time never off, and the wifi light never turns on. is there a certain way i should uninstall and install both to get it to work properly?

not sure as ive never had to update them.
you could have some old registry crap thats still conflicting.
try cc cleaner to see if anything to do with wifi shows up in the registry cleaner.

when it says you have to have it turned on before loading driver it means to press fn + f11 once.

might be worth just checking with your reseller tech help but of course it depends what part of the world you are from as easter long weekend starts now.

mr dj, i just did like 2 more system restores and both said they were unsuccessful at restoring, but for some reason the internet tabs i had open at those times came up so i guess it was a partial restore. anyway my internet is fixed! id buy you a beer if i could, amazing how you guys spend hours of your own time helping people. take care buddy, appreciate the persistent help.

oh no guys....i guess that botched system restore came back to haunt me. so my computer worked 100% yesterday and my internet was perfect. turn my lptop off and go to bed and this morning i turn it on and it says computer unable to start, startup repair will take place and if unsuccessful a system restore will need to be undergone. well it system restored me back to when i have no functional wireless internet or wlan network adapter. any help is appreciated this is frustrating...

you can be sure you muddied up your OS installation by running "partial" system restores and whatever else i might've missed skimming this thread. you can probably figure out another band-aid just by clicking around, but here's some likely advice that you probably don't want to hear: reinstall windows. :D

Okay guys I think i fixed it for good, what I did was a system restore while in safe mode networking. then I did some registry cleaning and deleted any wlan driver file i could find on my laptop. Then I restarted, went to device manager, right clicked property on network controller, then i went to the device's hardware id's and copied down the hardware id's to try and download the exact files from a google search. did just that and now everything is in order. i will never be playing around with my network drivers again lol.
