Looking to get it from xoticpc. Gaming laptop, going to be used for movies and school. If carrying it around when commuting/on campus is difficult, although I doubt it will be, I can always reconsider on the NP8150 even though the bigger screen and extra drive bays are enticing.

For the display, I'm looking to drop the extra $200 for the Glossy 90% Color Gamut screen (unless you guys recommend the stock screen or the Matte 72% Color Gamut screen)

IC Diamond Thermal Compound, 2630QM Processor unless you guys highly recommend the 2720QM processor.

Gonna go with the GTX 485M, an 80 gig SSD drive for the main drive, a 320 gig HDD drive for the second drive, a blu-ray reader for the third drive. 8 gigs of RAM.The 6230 wireless option since I read recommendations for that, and the basic black case.

    Look good?

Hi, if you are going to be lugging the laptop around a lot, I would definitely recommend the P150HM (8150) over the P170HM... because it has comparable performance, but is much more portable - since it's smaller/lighter than the P170HM (8170) both the laptop and PSU, and it cost less. (Around $200 less, with identical specs except a 95% screen on the P150HM, compared to 90% screen on the P170HM)

Like you said, the only real compromise is the screen size and 2nd hard drive, but you can put a 2nd HDD in the optical drive bay if you really need one... and having used both systems, the screen size isn't much of a factor to me. I actually prefer the P150HM. :)

I dunno about your prices but xoticpc has the 8150 for around $35 more than the 8170. If you're offering it for $200 less, that's a fantastic deal.

I suppose I COULD put a 2nd HDD in the optical drive bay and just buy an external drive for CDs and DVDs. What screen do you recommend for the 8150?

All of the screen options on the P150HM (8150) are nice... however, I personally prefer matte screens - so I would get the 95% matte upgrade.

Also, the price comparison I gave includes a $200 screen upgrade on the P170HM - compared to a $95 screen upgrade on the P150HM... so that's a $105 difference right there.

The P150HM will definitely cost much less than the P170HM and you get the same CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, Wi-Fi on a more portable system with a better screen.

Is it possible to get the unit without the "Malibal" logo under the screen? =)

I'm slightly OCD when it comes to details like that.

Yep, just let us know. We can ship with or without the screen or lid logos.

Would it make more sense to get an 80 gig SSD for the main drive and have a 750 gig external hard drive while keeping the standard disc drive?

Or would it make more sense to get an 80 gig SSd for the main drive, get a 750 gig HDD instead of the disc drive, and then get an external disc drive?

It all depends. If you don't mind having to hook up the eHDD to access your data then it would be a good idea to get that one external. But if you think you will access the HDD more than you will play a CD/DVD/BluRay then It would make sense to get an eOD.

    Specs look good.

485m is a monster on games.

Do you need the disk drive at school? If not then you could go the 8150, replace the disk drive and save yourself some additional weight by leaving the external drive at home.

From first-hand experience I can tell you the 8150 is a lot easier to carry around than the 8170.

Either way will work fine... it just depends on what you will be using more - the 2nd HDD or optical drive. I would personally stick the 2nd HDD in the optical drive bay and then get an external optical drive.
