Mine's not dead but it might as well be, sound only comes out one ear and it often kills the external speakers too unless I rub my finger over the jack.

I'm currently using mic-out remapped to speakers but the sound quality isn't as good.

I hope Sager and Clevo are aware of this problem and trying to rectify it!!
Cause they seriously need to be!!

So many ppl buy these notebooks unaware of the fact that the headphone port may just give up on them anytime!!

Sager and Clevo seriously need to drastically improve their quality checks to ensure that the customers get good quality stuff they are all hoping for!!

I still havent had any problems with the audiojacks, but I aint using them that much either.

But it surly seems like a big deal, which should be easy to fix IMO. If its just bad soldering, why not fasten the jacks proberly while doing so ? Do the jacks rest on the MB ? A good quality glue should then be able to keem the jacks in place, taking of the wear and tear from the solder, with no real need to do a better soldering job. Tho a better solder would highly be preferable, maybe in addition with a nice amount of glue put under the jacks.

Fine here with 8 months use...

But I agree, the jacks don´t appear to be to much high quality... no gold plated contact pins  even my 10 years old Sound Blaster Live! have that...

Don't know how to vote here: my blue jack is dead but it is completely my fault. I yanked a cord out of it by accident. If I put a plug in it and push to the right it works though. Anyways I can still get surround sound out of the other two jacks...

    Hey, you left out:

"I don't give a jack, because I never use it" option.

I have the first generation M570U (Sager 5760). I hardly ever use the jack, and can't even remember the last time I plug a head phone into that thing. But after reading all of these GJOD posts, I used it this morning. Works fine.

The only "problem" that I have, is that I can't have my external speakers plugged in, then just plug in headphones and have them work. I have to unplug my externals, then refresh what ever I was doing, THEN plug in the headphones. It can be annoying when I'm trying to watch a movie.

Died on me a little over a month ago. I was angry until I bought the Sound Blaster Expresscard, which is actually quite a nice buy.

On the D901C isn't the jack thing just a small separate board?
Shouldn't cost much to get it replaced.
If that is the case you could probably even put custom jacks on there.

Edit: All 4 jacks on my D901C work and I have had it since about November or so. (before the 8800M GTX was available)

Mines still runnin fine after a year, use it fairly often, normally have my speakers plugged in as well.

    *crosses fingers*

I think I might just buy an externall sound card, and that way if i NEED to use the jack w/e the card I know it will work... Plus I wouldnt mind the extra sound quality

That's funny, cuz I remember back in the 80's when the cassette walkman was popular that headphone jacks had problems with intermittent contact. That was mainly due to repeated insertion and removal of the headphone plugs thus causing solder joints to lift off the circuit board. The same goes for AC plugs. Since then manufacturers have improved on securing the jack to the board with better techniques.

Now that we are in the 2000's, I would think that this problem would not be as widespread. I guess not. But my Ipod still has not had that problem...

This headphone jack problem is only occurring with the NP5793/NP5796?
    How about the NP8660? NP2096?

I have two 570RU's.... one jack just died. What's the state of the nation on these? Anyone comment on what their vendor has done?
