I am not sure if I will need a cooler yet since I wont be a crysis person; however, it is good to know which one to get in the future.
Right now i have read reviews on:
Zalman Notebook Cooler nc1000
Zalman Notebook Cooler nc1500 <no review but same fans..can I use this on lap?
COOLER MASTER NOTEPAL INFINITE
Enermax Aeolus CP001-B
and the Nxt something cryo
all of these are great but the reviews dont cover portability..since they stay on the desk. The infinite is the only one with a side intake that i know of.
I have seen the cooler thread.

Thermaltake T1000
Thermaltake T2000
Thermaltake T4000
Coolermaster NotePal D1

I am looking for a portable cooler that gets the job done. if not I may just buy a zalman nc 1500 or 1000 they are light but they intake for the bottom.

Haha, that looks real portable, MrDJ. I think you missed the highlight of his post.
drake333. Do you plan to take your cooler along with you wherever your laptop goes? If so, you may want to pick up something lighter such as a passive cooler. Judging from your post, I'm assuming you're not going to be doing anything intensive with the GPU, so an active cooler is not needed. If you still want a good cooler, you can pick up both a passive cooler for mobility and a NC2000 or Cryo LX for home. -
could you enlighten me to what a passive cooler is? i saw a segment of it ont eh cooler post but dont know what they would be
"Passive coolers are a solution that is good for those concerned about every last minute of battery life and require use on a lap or similarly soft surface. Unfortunately many passive coolers do not cool but generate more heat. It is a solution for those wanting a passive or cost-effective solution to a cooler could use something such as a thick wallet, erasers or pretty much anything solid under the back legs of their notebook in order to improve air circulation."
so i understand how to make a passive cooler for a desk situation but what about a lap? a sheet or metal? nothing fabric a mesh wire with one inch supports on a sheet of metal to raise the laptop and leave air flow?
I really dont think i will need a real hard core cooler since i dont know what kind of games i will play:
prince of persia 4
tom clancy hawx
WOW
Civ 4
age of empires
empire earth -
i have the one dj shows and its supurb
it is portable too, fits in my laptop bag, folds in half

There are a lot of passive coolers out there. It would be unwise to group them all as one class. X2P is referring to "thermal pad" types of coolers that have little crystals in them that are supposed to "absorb" heat when in reality they block the fans and insulate heat. Believe me, I have one of those coolers. They suck. The passive coolers that I'm talking about are the ones that raise the laptop to allow more airflow underneath the laptop as well as open up more intake pressure for the fans. My Xpad is that kind of passive cooler. It is my primary notebook cooler for both desk use and lap use.
All of those games you stated are very GPU unintensive games. Your GTX 260M can run all those games at 3D desktop clocks if it wanted to.
The Cryo LX weighs ~2.25kg. That's a lot of weight to partner with a M860TU in a backpack. -
@ MrDJ would it work on my lap? i dont know about that...or comfort [there seems that there would be a sharp lip on the back of the cooler to sit on my lap. ...
-
ok so in the end i wont really need a performance laptop cooler. so im just going to look for the lightest and most portable...anyone know about the thermaltake ones or links or names of some good passive ones.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, this is the cooler that I use after I gave away my NC2000 and retired (fired) my Thermapak. http://www.xpad4laptop.com/
You will not find anything as lightweight, compact, and effective as this. -
Apparently the Aeolus Enermax can be deconstructed to make it more mobile, which is why I'm looking into it as I should be able to carry it arround without a second bag. But if you mean to use while on the move - you're better off without one.
Portable cooling?
