    Good evening,

I've had a p150em for approximately 2yrs now and not had any issues with it. Over the past few months I've been having a strange problem though. My laptop will sometimes boot up or out of the blue, and the num and caps lock lights with flash and my sound will beep. This will happen a few times, sometimes go away, but usually after about 30 seconds my laptop will shut off (not shut down).

I believe it is related to the CPU fan. Sometimes I'll boot and hit Fn 1 to force max fans and the cpu fan will not spin, this reproduces the symptoms. Reconnecting the fan does not solve the problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Oddly, removing the fan altogether and the problem does not happen.

Is there something I'm missing? Is it just a fan issue? Any ideas?

Please help, I have to rely on passive air cooling my cpu, thus no gaming and no heavy load tasks..

Edit: I found some Chinese replacements from eBay but those would take weeks to ship, are there any amazon alternatives?

Fans from any P150 series laptop will work so that should broaden what you can find.

I was able to find an amazon prime cpu fan for about 30$ so that should be in Monday to replace.

Do you think that is the issue? Just a faulty fan?
The CPU doesn't even get that hot, approx 71-72 deg C under light use and then back down into 60's (with the fan not running at all).

It's the prime suspect and not that expensive to replace :)

Sorry, I am OP, but since I couldn't log on using my laptop, could not log into this account.

Thanks for your help Meaker, you were absolutely right.

I replaced the CPU fan with a replacement I received from amazon. While there, I repasted the CPU and GPU with some old Arctic MX4. I'll let it run overnight and maybe a few days to see if the issue comes back.

That being said, using the Fn+1, the new CPU fan seems to put out significantly more air than the old fan even when it would work, so definitely a plus.

    Looking good!
