I recently purchased a Sager NP8152-S (Clevo P650RP6/-G) and I'm not happy with the backlighting on the keyboard. What I don't like is the colored lighting emitting from around the sides of the keys. I think it's blinding at night and not necessary. I've never used this type of keyboard before and was unable to view one in person before purchase. My previous laptop, a Clevo P150EM (Sager NP9150), had perfect keyboard lighting with only the letters/number/symbols being illuminated and solid key sides. I already looked into the swapping them but the keyboards are different physical sizes. I like everything else about the new laptop and this is a minor gripe. Are there any other keyboards available that will fit in the NP8152 which have only the letters lit up? It would be nice if it was an easy drop in unit. Thank you.

Is it an issue if you dim the brightness as well? You should be able to use Fn and - or Fn and + to raise and lower the brightness.

I don't think I've seen any other keyboards that are compatible, as far as I know. I'm not sure if anybody else has tried here though. Even if you find one, you would need to check those keyboards as well to see if they have painted edges on the keys. I know MSI's steel series keyboards are pretty similar in how the light comes through the side of the keys on their newer keyboards (though I don't think they would work).

Thanks. Yes, I've played around with the brightness and, unfortunately, if you dim the brightness of the light as to not be a bother it also lowers the top character illumination to a point where it's no longer discernible in the dark. I simply can't see any benefit of having light emitted from the sides of the keys.

The EM series used to be able to accommodate a SteelSeries keyboard upgrade, but I don't believe any keyboards are confirmed to work with current Clevo models. It would be a shot in the dark/trial & error right now.

I believe the EC control scheme is now different.
