I thought that we should post our hdd speed results using this program : http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html.
I start first (WD Scorpio Black 320Gb 7200rpm) :
It should be interesting to see the results from our friends with a ssd.

how about using something more standard..... that NBR has been using for a while now in their reviews.
HDTune. -
Ok maybe we could use both. It's just that by using crystalmark we avoid add another installed program (as it's only a *.exe)
-
-
Hitachi 5K500.B and 5K500.
-
HDtune does not require installation, its a standalone .exe
-
From here? http://www.hdtune.com . That's weird because it did a full installation to me.
-
thats strange... I have a previous version of HDtune that I use for testing... which is a standalone .exe
maybe they changed it. -

Interesting, how the Hitachi 5K500.B have on par speed with the 7K320.
Well, not on par per se, but only little less. -
-
Incredible!!!!! I envy you!!!
-
less than 0.1 ms of response.... nice.
-
Nice rig!
-
I feel ashamed to post this now
-
What is your HDD brand and model used for the benchmark?
-
It's 3 200GB's in RAID-0
-
yeah, but what brand and model?
-
its weird we dont see more of these benches, especially considering that HDDs have historically been bottlenecks.
i'm betting on SSD technology to change that. i wonder what the next bottleneck will be -
Update:
Changed the Intel X-25M Firmware from 8781 to 8820.
If you have an Intel X18-M or X25-M you can get the update here, http://support.intel.com/support/ssdc/index_update.htm Released April 10, 2009. -
Thanks very much for the update, been waiting for this.
-
I have an Intel X25m 80G ssd- the crystalmark scores are :
242.5 / 41.05
165.4 / 37.90
19.73 / 28.67
If I knew how to post a screenshot, I would do that...
Interesting that the sequential write speeds are less than a a conv hd, but the random score is way higher... I am told that this score represents more "real-world" performance for a machine being used normally. This is borne out in my experience, as I use this computer for CAD/CAM stuff that is very page-file intensive, and compared to a desktop with 10k WD Raid1 drives, its very fast...
Test scores are on a D901c Xeon3370 4G ram, Quadro FX3700m using the X25 as a primary, and 500Gtravelstar as secondary. -
Hah! I see that in the time it took me to run the test, others have posted ssd times, and I owe a thanks to seth for the firmware update! I'm late again as usual..
-
Here is my before and after a firmware update for my SSD
I just wish I waited for the 160GB X25-M since I usually only have between 10 and 25 GB free at any given time. Vista is a hog......hmmmm when should I switch to 7? -
I've been dualbooting 7 since public beta and haven't booted into the vista partition properly since...
-
Yeah, I heard W7 is much better than Vista. And it's stil in beta version.
I want to try it, but i figure the release date for final version is near anyway, so I'll just wait
-
the stage of the Win7 beta is pretty much final beta.
I have been testing it.... extremely stable and good performing.
What Vista should have been IMO. -
