I remember reading somewhere that you could buy a smaller power adapter to travel with when you know you won't be gaming/using much power. As long as you keep power usage down, this is safe, right? If so, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to which one would work for the NP9150. Thanks a lot!

Safe up to a point. If you accidentally have your CPU/GPU maxed out, you might run out of juice. And could possibly do something like corrupt data on your HDD or just BSOD.

Even when the windows performance evaluation thingie runs you might run into trouble. (can be turned off to not start automatically somewhere)

Granted if your PSU is grossly over powered for your configuration then you could drop some wattage for sure. I'd recommend monitoring the ampere load on your PSU directly (DC side) for a while under normal use to gauge what kind of PSU you could drop to. Add 30-50% to be safe.

Thanks for the input. I'll take it slow for sure and do more research into power usage and the like -- a corrupted HDD sounds great. It would be nice to not lug that brick around when it would be overkill for my power usage.

Personally this is not something I'd consider doing. Underpowering a system can cause some bad problems (not the least of which would be putting undue strain on the adapter itself) and not worth the risk versus carrying around a slightly larger/heavier adapter. Especially since unless you have a way to limit the power draw you might have bursts above its capacity without even trying hard. Having said that you could probably find a smaller adapter that provides the same power at a higher price.

no stress, just make sure u put ur system into powersaving mode and underclock ur GPU with Nvidia Inspector or respective program for AMD cards :) then u can make sure that ur wattage stays below a certain point, no matter what u do.

    cheers
