Sometimes under full load the powerbrick gets a bit loud, loader then my PC using fn+3 low fan power. Is that normal?

What model laptop do you have?
I have a Sager NP5791 and the powerbrick makes a quiet wining sound which I believe is normal. I think most (all?) bricks make at least a little noise. You're running a pretty strong current through them after all. -
Its in my sig. 5793.

Yes, it is one crazy high-powered adapter, the buzz is normal but make sure its not in an enclosed area and away from other electronics as it gets very warm. I also keep it on its side so more surface area is in the air for cooling. helps just a little bit.
-
Good to hear. I am completely pleased with my laptop now. Finally got the drives partitioned the way i wanted it after the 6th reformat! Got all my games drivers apps installed. Got my Creative Express Sound Card which is AMAZING. Guess i can say that i am a happy camper.

Sweet, welcome to the club!

Mine also whines a bit.
-
All things considered, I guess I`m lucky, my powerbrick doesn`t overheat nor does it sing opera.

If you wanna be really nice to your brick you can get one of those large APC surge protectors that manage power more efficiently than a normal surge protector, and they claim to save on power bills too.
-
Mine is noisy too. Does yours have a fan in it as well? I know that mine does, but some other 5793 users don't have that.
Mine made a lot of noise when it was right on my desk, cause it would vibrate when the fan kicked in. to mitigate some of that noise, i put a sock in between the brick and the desk :3 ...that cut down some of the noise -

What fan? there isn`t any fan inside the power brick.
-
There is in mine.

I see it. Mine doesn't even have a vent. Sager must have put a fan in the power brick to compensate for the increased power requirements of the 8800m with the release of the 5793. I can't think of any other reasonable explanation for why some would have fans, and other wouldn't. It wasn't even an option when I got my 5791.
-
Mines is exactly like your callidor. Thats what i've been hearing sometimes. The vibrating. AT first i was like is something broken?
-
Me too. The first time i heard the buzzing/vibration noise, I paniced, thinking it was some scary broken electrical noise
-
this is ridiculous!!! how the heck you guys got a fan in your adapter???? I need one!!!
I hope Justin can respond this, which some users have it and some don't? -

>Got a 5793 w/8800m gtx without a fan-laden powerbrick
>don't care -
Does it really matter though? Even with the fan the power brick can get really hot at times.
I think they just released this. There a sticker on my brick that says June 08 -

I'm sure that if the fan were absolutely necessary to ensure that your brick doesn't explode, you would have it. This is probably just some new luxury thing that they threw in for fun, and we happened to be lucky to order when it was newish ^^;

I have a 9262 and dnt have a fan.Can this be bought from somewhere?
-
Maybe from the sager/xotic website where they sell the spare parts?
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I dnt think so.Even those who bought from them didn't get those I think. That's the first one I see with a fan.
You got this from xotic? -
I got mine from the official sager site. www.sagernotebook.com
-
Well it wouldn't matter though would it. Xotic or PNB they all ship out of sager. I ordered mines from Xotic. Its probably new that came out this month. Powerbrick says june 08 on it.
-
they put that in for a reason.
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Ya,I am pretty sure they are a good addition.
-
I guess contacting the reseller you bought it from and asking for a swap or something could work. I guess they put the fan in there for a reason.
-

If this one spoils,I will get a new one
-
So, instead of arguing amongst yourselves, why doesn't some intrepid poster actually ask their reseller and/or Sager?
-

Where is the argument
?
It's clear that it's an addition to adapters made since June 08.Mine is April 08.And yes every one welcomes it.As said if mine dies,i will get one of those, till then forget it. -
Mine says may 08
-
-
When I first saw this thread, I was thinking - whoa! The power brick makes noise for some people??!! I didn't realize the new addition of a fan.
-
My AC adapter makes a humming noise when it's plugged into the laptop. When I turn on the laptop, the noise goes away.

Mine is Mar 08, it gets pretty damn warm, but I can only hear noise from it if I hold my ear next to it... that is one damn creepy sound, like those creepy sounds that come from a Tesla coil.
Like Callidor said, its probably just a luxury- perhaps to lower heat and maybe to increase life, but hot bricks like this have been around a while- the Xbox brick is VERY hot but I know people that have had them for a while with no problems. If the earlier powerbricks are an exploding risk or something, then we would be getting a load of recall messages... -
I guess they added it during May then. Mines gets warm to. Not hot but warm, comfortable warm. But when it gets this warms it hums like every 5 seconds

I think I might contact Sager and see how much one of those new "fanned" powerbricks cost, never hurts to have a spare...
