Hello everyone,
I've enjoyed my laptop since May 10, but a strange behavior has happened 3 times now. When I press the power button on the 9150, it fails to turn on. The power light that normally turns green just flashes yellow. I have to press the button about 20 times before the unit will power on. Laptop was bought over 30 days ago from LPC-Digital and I'd hate to return the laptop because my summer classes just started and I depend on this laptop. Any owners experience this issue? Also, the keyboard! Of all the laptops I've owned, this one will not register my keyed input while typing unless its pressed hard or a certain way. Is this normal for Sager keyboards? I type all the time writing papers and have never had this problem with my HP and Toshiba. So folks, what do you think? The power on issues and the keyboard! How's Sagers repair service? This sucks after spending $1550! Thanks!

Definitely not normal for the power button. Contact LPC and see what they recommend. Could just a loose cable, but it's curious that you say a yellow light flashes..? Are you turning the laptop on from a shut down, or are you sleeping the laptop..?

Thanks hizzah,
I forgot to state that this is from a cold, hard boot. I even removed the battery on one occasion and gave it another try. Far light on the right just flashes yellow until I press the power button about 15-20 times. Any info on the keyboards lack of registering my keystrokes? Is this just a characteristic of these keyboards? -
I can't comment on the new keyboards as I haven't used one yet. I've seen a few people saying things along the lines of these keyboards are a bit stiffer then the last gen..
-
Well I contacted LPC! Hopefully they can take care of it instead of Sager. I am over the 30 day return policy(bought early May). Will keep you all posted on the customer service.

Now I know this refers to a completely different computer, but I've seen this happen with our Dell desktop before. We even tried changing the battery on the motherboard but it didn't help. Turns out it was a defect with the power switch itself and I suspect it is the same with your computer. The whole switch needs to be replaced. Let us know how you go with it.

Will do fWord!

Not quite related, but a friend of mine's laptop's power button went awry on him, so he soldered some wires on and he would twist them together to switch his laptop on. Not very safe but innovative.

have you tried all the various turn on options yet.
remove mains and battery and hold power button down for 10 seconds.
replace battery and try booting.
then remove battery use mains only and try booting.
are you getting the same results from both.
other option is to find the cmos battery inside and remove/replace it and then try the above again.
if its still the same then does sound like youve got a dodgy on/off button -
MrDJ,
Thanks for the tips! I will give it a go when I get home. I have tried the removing the battery method you mentioned. That gives the same results with the far right light blinking yellow. Again, these symptoms happen from a cold boot. I don't use standby or hibernate. -
as far as i know or it is on the older clevo's anyway the far right light is the hard drive so a blinking yellow/orange light is normal
actually scrap that. mine is blinking green at the moment but ive seen it blinking yellow before. -
Hmm! Interesting! I'm going through the manual now! Any chance a bad drive can cause this? Just bought two Intel ssds and installed them when I received the laptop. Anyhow, anyone have any experience with Sagers warranty service? LPC is going to help with the warranty service. I just can't be without a laptop for more than two weeks!

I had/have almost the same exact issue with my 6165. Pushing the power button means that the power light on the front of the computer would turn on briefly, then turn off, turn on and then turn off for good. Fans, screen, etc... wouldn't do anything. Pushing the power button repeatedly didn't make a difference.
I took it back in to my vendor and they found that pulling the cmos battery briefly (10 seconds or so) cleared the issue and it worked fine after that so they returned it. I had the same issue come up almost immediately after I got it home from the shop sadly.
I'm waiting to get the bios from then so I can reflash the machine. I've got a crazy idea that there is something funky there that is causing it to go crazy.
That being said, the machine has been running good for the last 2 days now so perhaps it has stabilized in the short term.
Anyhow, might want to try pulling the cmos battery connector for a count of 10 next time you run into the issue and see what happens. -
Hey, thanks amramsey! Is the battery easy to get too? I dont remember seeing it when I installed my RAM and SSD's. Hopefully it's that simple!
-
i did mention the cmos battery in my previous post. they are located in different places on different lappys so its a case of hunt it down. not sure if it would be shown in the user manual but would be in the service manual but these are like gold dust to get hold of.

Be very careful trying to disconnect it as they do have a tendency to be rather tight in the socket and you can risk pulling the wires from the connector if you are not careful.
