I just purchased a sager NP9262 and am wondering what kind of power inverter that can be used in a car...if any...that can be used with this laptop?
I can't seem to find any conversations talking about this topic. I notice Alienware offers Belkin® AC Anywhere 300W Vehicle Outlet Adapter but im not sure if it will power this laptop or not. Pls help if you can.

    Sager NP9262 Specs-
    - 17" WUXGA LCD (1920 x 1200)
    - Q6600 / 8MB L2 Cache, 2.40GHz, 1066MHz FSB
    - Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX
    - VISTA Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition
    - 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    - 200GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive
    - 2X BD-R/8X DVD±R/2.4X +DL Blu-ray

the power adapter is rated for 20v @ 11a = 220w, but that's output to the laptop. The conversion from AC to DC will likely eat about 20% of the efficiency. you'd be looking at about 264w. 300 could be cutting it close, 350 should give you enough of a buffer, 400w would be great. This is a good idea. I will have to test this out on my 400w inverter sometime soon.

So i can just look for any 350-400 power watt inverter and it should work fine for NP9262. no other numbers or specs i need to worry about?.... obviously im clueless about the watts/amps/volts and such. Does anyone looking at this thread have any suggestions for what they currently use for thier NP9262?
Thanks Sabregen for the fast reply.

Does the car even have that much power?
Mine has a 120 W , according to the 20 V and 6 A output...so my 5791 would work but the 9262 would not. So I think you should check how much power the care is outputting.

I have a 300watt power inverter from Belkin... it works fine for my 220w power supply. :)

I only used it a couple of times when I needed to use it in the car or re-charge it.

    Hi Matt,

I actually asked Sager about this several months back, and there are two important aspects to consider:

First, a 350+ Watt adapter is sufficient to power the notebook.

Second, the computer REQUIRES an 11 Amp current, which may be a larger current than the average power inverter supplies, so be sure you check this rating, as well.

SO my vehicle is a honda pilot looks like the accessory plugs are rated to 12V 120W. I suppose that means i should not be using an inverter higher than that unless i run a line directly from the battery?
Does anyone have any experience with this? When i was looking for the belkin inverter i mentioned above at radio shack i found generic 350Watt inverter by radio shack, it had clips to attach to the battery directly as well as a replaceable accessory plug. Should I infer that this is the only way i will be powering my 9262 on the go?

Anyone have any experience running direct lines from the battery to an inverter and if so which inverter would you recommend to someone that has no clue about this stuff.

I don't take a lot of trips but it would be nice to have a mobile solution for the few times that i do.

Thanks to all that have answered so far,

    Matt

    Gophn,

Thanks for the reply with the photos. I believe the NP9262 from what i have been learning is like 11amps which is more than the honda pilot accessory outlet can stand. (again not 100% sure on this). Does your computer have the same power reqs as mine? And are you plugging into a standard vehicle accessory outlet?

If this would work for me and not blow or burn my accessory outlet fuse or wires then ill buy one tomorrow. I am eyeing the 400w one you posted with the battery terminal hookups. Can i deduce that this would eliminate the need to use the accessory plug? Probably have an automotive/audio place install one of these?

    Thanks everyone,

My only complaint about Sager was/is
**the salesman at sager actually laughed at me when I asked why they didn't ship the car adapter I had told him I wanted at the time of purchase. He told me there is no such thing listed on their website and he would pay me $1000 himself if I could prove there was. When building my Laptop on their website on the last page with accessories the first line says

Car Adapter & Additional AC Adapter
    [ ] ACA-9262, NP9262 110V/220V autoswitching AC Adapter [+$120.00]

Now that says to me, since im no expert on what the text of the item listed actually means, that I get one "AND" the other. Not "Or" which implies I could get both. I'm sure some of you knowledgeable guys probably getting a laugh thinking of me arguing with him. Originally I bought the NP5793 without an adapter wishing i had. So when I returned it and ordered the NP9262 as an exchange i asked that he include the car adapter of course nothing was said about not having one until after I recieved it.

Obviously i know now its only a second adapter for use in a different location or to replace a bad one. When i complained about false advertising and the confusion it caused they said sorry and good luck finding something that will work.

P.S. I noticed today that the accessories page for the NP9262 has since been changed to remove the "Car Adapter" wording from the page.
I guess they agreed with me. FRANK YOU OWE ME $1000. LOL

I flew in international business class where you have an AC plug built into the seat. My Sager 9750 drew too much power for the AC plug in the seat to function properly. The plug worked for a couple of minutes and then I was on battery power. These machine are causing global warming all by themselves. :)

The text was a little unclear, but the explanation would be that it was filler text that wasn't actually indicating that a car adapter was available. That section of Sager's orders page was for listing BOTH Car Adapters AND Spare AC Adapters, if available (basically, it's a template for all models). To the webmaster putting up the filler text, it's always self-evident that, since no car adapter is actually priced and listed below the heading, no car adapter is available. Obviously, that isn't the case, which is why the header text has now been changed.

I didn't have to he went to the website and got to that third build screen to see what i was talking about while i was on the phone with him. Oh well. Atleast they changed the text so others that perhaps are waivering between the 5793 or the 9262 but want the car adapter ability know which way to go.
All said and done im still glad i went with the 9262 just not as portable as id hoped.

If anyone reading this has more info regarding my original question and what has worked for them pls post.
