I believe my power adapter finally died today in my NP9170 (P170EM). The cord has been getting really bent near the power brick and now none of the LED lights come on on my laptop when it's plugged in. Removed battery, tried different jacks, etc.

My options as I see it right now are:
    1. Re-buy the $125 adapter from Sager
    2. Can I get an aftermarket adapter with the same specs that will work just the same or does it need to be from Sager?

With that being said, I'm not 100% sure the adapter is the problem but I don't have another one to spot check it. I did open the power brick and saw a loose metal wire near where the wire is soldered to the board. The soldered connections look solid, but it looks like one of the metal strings in the wire might have broken and come loose from where it was once connected (Literally just one wire out of 30+ metal wires that are all twisted and bunched into one connection, before they split and are soldered to the board).

I'm wondering if I can get a power adapter locally with the same specs for cheap enough to at least test it to see if it's the power brick. Not sure how these things handle generic adapters though.... if I can even find one for this beast of a laptop.

This is what Sager has for the specs on the adapter:
    Full Range 220W AC Adapter AC-in 100~240V, 50~60Hz, DC output 19V, 11.57A

There may be some third party AC Adapters that work but we always suggest sticking with OEM. I would contact your original reseller to see if they can get you one. Also ask what their return policy is just in case it isnt the AC Adapter. Most do allow refunds up to 30 days. That way you're covered if it is or is not the AC Adapter. By your description so far it does sound like it.

Aftermarket/non-OEM adapters are harder to come by for Clevo systems, especially for the 4-pin jacks. It's generally advised you stick with the OEM charger to avoid any risk. You can contact your reseller and have them test it for assurance on whether it's the adapter or not, but that's up to you as to whether you want to go any amount of time without the laptop.
