    Hello,

I am experiencing issues with the GPU NOT clocking down when on AC-Current.
When not plugged in, the notebook clocks down the GPU and memory as it needs to, but when attaching it to the current, the clocks raise to their maximum.

In Ubuntu the clocks change as intended but in Windows 7 they obviously do not. The fan is disturbingly loud as a consequence.

Formerly the GPU clocked down perfectly but I had to reinstall Windows. I do not think the firmware to be related to this problem but rather the driver software. I am currently using the official nVidia 195.62 mobile driver on my 8800m GTX (clevo m570ru).

I also tried adding powermizer-keys to the registry as described somewhere in this forum, but with no success.

Furthermore the CPU-fan switches on in idle, though the CPU temperature is quite low (blown out air ist cold). In speedfan the tempreatures are 28°C for core0 and 38°C for core1 in idle. How can I fix this?

I added some thermal paste to the heatspreaders after cleaning them, so that will not be the issue.

    Thanks in advance
    Adrian

that's wierd... i've also noticed the fans overblowing for no apparent reason recently, but i think they may get triggered at CPU temps > 35C (I moved from a P9700 that was idling at 29-31 to a Q9200 idling at 36-40)

as for the GPU do you have an external display connected? Double-check your display settings, as soon as you duplicate or extend your display powermizer stops working.

I switched over to "DOX 195.62" drivers and powermizer seems to work quite well for now...still the gpu clocks up again unnecessarily when opening windows (aero). is there a way to force clock settings manually?

edit: it seems that powermizer only works with no external display attached as you supposed. is there a solution to this?

    thanks in advance

Don't use that driver(195.62). I've uninstalled it because of that exact problem. It didn't want to downclock to 2D clocks.

    Using now 195.81.

same here... i tried pretty much all driver versions and i just gave up, these powermizer drivers are really bad

on top of it all they create DPC latency spikes each time the gpu downclocks that makes the sound pop/crack/stutter. Nvidia says they're working on it but we've been waiting forever. check out this thread, this is where you can complain and have a tiny chance of getting heard: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=157614

For all of the above posts experiencing Powermizer issues, have you all tried official WHQL 186.81 Nvidia Drivers?

I use 196.86 Dell Mobile Drivers at the moment but can only recommend them to those who are willing to use the modded .inf or manually edit it to get it to work. Aside from having to do that, those Drivers give me the best performance, stability and I have no Powermizer issues at all.

are you still using your m860tu or are you talking about your new laptop?

I'll give the old 186.81 drivers a shot but i believe they're giving me spikes/stutter on downclock. You're not getting spikes when the GPU jumps from its min clock to its max clock with the Dell 196.86?? If you're using an external monitor you wont experience these jumps though because the clocks never go lower than state #3.

I am talking about my new W860CU laptop. When I was using the Dell 196.86, I didn't experience any issues at all, no spikes or anything either. I am using 197.25 (Desktop) now though and everything is great.

oh this is normal, the DPC issue does not affect any of the new Calpella platform laptops

I am now using that "powermizer manager" which works quite well. I can fix clocks without restarting and change them quite quickly.

I recommend the WHQL 197.16 Nvidia Drivers that have just been released.

WHQL 197.16 doesnt mention any fixes to powermizer in its release notes. It seems that the flash video stutter has been fixed somehow, the gpu still downclocks to its minimum state while watching but there is no stutter.

I'm getting nasty spikes on downclocks still ~60k but they seem to have less impact on audio stutter than before.

I'm sticking with the Dell 196.86 beta until Nvidia releases the fixed drivers... they're horrible but right now they're the less of all evil for my particular needs.

as i said, powermizer manager fixes clocks (which prevents clocks from changing I think ;) ). You might try it.

    Concerning my CPU-fan:

The CPU (T7700) does not warm up significantly and temperature seems to be read out incorrectly (difference of 8 degrees between the two cores).

    Idle:
    Core0: 30°C
    Core1: 38°C

Can I do anything? Might it be possible to improve cooling (additional copper blocks) or swap the CPU for a P8XXX ?

    thanks in advance
