Basically, it gets here Wednesday...I'm pumped and it'll be my first gaming pc/laptop. Was wondering how I should prep for it? Anyone know good sites that list deals on games...I'm definitely buying Starcraft II :p. Also, can anyone provide a color profile? I got the 72% matte. Anything else I'm not thinking of?

Greenmangaming.com has a 25% off all of their games until the 9th. Steam will be having their summer sale soon, but no one knows when it will start yet.

What type of games do you like? My favorites at the moment are BF3, Civ V, and Skyrim.

any games really, not much of a preference...I own alot of games on my 360 already though, and actually was looking for a new mmo/mmorpg to play...low grind and not too expensive. Was thinking about guild wars 2 as I hear tons of good reviews about it....even though its not out yet XD

Well if you really want to see the power of your PC, download BF3 or Crysis 2. If you get Crysis 2, don't forget to download the updated texture pack and the Direct X 11 patch. :)
Other than that, I've ended up downloading Skyrim and some of my old favorite games. I ended up finding an HD PC version of Resident Evil 4 and I love that. That game never gets old.

CC cleaner, Firefox, Thunderbird, Skype, Steam, Origin, GpuZ, Dropbox, iTunes, Calibre, yo Drivers and Windows updates.

Other than that, I'd be using a game like BF3 or Crysis to test out your machine. Also the new Batman: Arkham City is pretty rad.

You can get some free to play on Steam. There are a few good ones. I'm currently trying MS Flight, but I like flight sims. If you want to bump up your game library, wait for the summer sale, you can get some awesome catalogue deals.

Actually, if anyone here checks the techspot.com website, every Friday they list game deals. I scored both of the Batman games for under $12 a couple months ago and also picked up a few other excellent games for $5. :)

It is usually the last week of June and the first week of July. For whatever reason (some people suspect usual Valve just wanting to everyone off), they haven't done it yet. It should be happening very soon though. Maybe next week.

There are quite a few great "Freemium" games. Free to play, option to pay for aspects of the game.

Tribes Ascend, World of Tanks are two great ones that I can recommend.

Team Fortress 2 is very popular and is free

If you open Steam, go to the Store page, and under "Genre" pick free to play, you can see essentially every F2P game out. If it isn't on Steam, then it is either unpopular or made by EA, or both.

Tons of MMOs that were once subscription based are now free to play. Just don't get sucked into the pay to win games. too many people spend more monthly on free MMOs than i did in all my years of WOW,

TF2 is one of my favorites already mentioned. Also Quake Live can be fun to jump into.

tons to play for several genre's

Given that we can't create new threads, and because this thread just happened to end up discussing Steam and gaming deals, I felt it would be worth mentioning to you all that Steam appears to have their summer sale going on right now.

    You're welcome. ^^

Yeah, the Steam summer sale is now up.

The basic rule of the summer sale is not to buy anything that is not a daily deal until the last day. You never know if something may become a daily deal. For example, Skyrim is currently 33% off, but if it becomes a daily deal, it may drop to 50% off. Or, it may not. The 33% off will last until the last day of the sale, so if it doesn't appear on the daily deals by then, you are save to buy it.
