    Setup On MySn.De

    Core i7 950
    460m sli
    12gb ddr3 1333mhz
    Samsung 470 128gb SSD

    Centrino 6300
    TV Tunner
    BlueRay Reader.

After doin some research i reached the conclusion the samsung 470 series ssds is definetly a very good choice, that's why i went with it.

I'll later on get 2 more internal hdd. For now i will use as storage a 3.5" 1.5TB in rack on usb western digital.

I will make sure to add some numbers for the 460m sli once i get it.

I just want to know if they have the 460 in the stock, if they do, and i don't have to wait some more, i might go ahead with the order.

I would also want to know how will the package make it's way to me, i am from romania, and they are from germany.

    1. As far as I know, yes.
    2. As far as I know, controllable yes but you need to remote control and I don't think they provide that.
-I'm saying this because the M570TU and the W870 also have a tv-tunner option.

    3. Ask your reseller.

In fact, it is best to forward all of the above questions to your reseller, they know a lot more than we do.

    4. With the 460M there will be no PSU issues and if they are, you can always buy a new (updated) PSU further down the road, they are not that expensive. But I doubt you will need it.

The price overall is really good. I am sure you will enjoy the performance.

After reading the article on anandtech regarding the new amd 6xxx series GPU, i have reached the conclusion that i should wait a couple of weeks more, and get the new chips inside the 7200.
Gettin 460s now and replacing later is an option, but very difficult to do since there is a very low chance i will find buyers here for my 2 460, and will have trouble gettin 6870m-s alone just to swap in the 7200.

Also i will see how the 3rd gen intel ssds will end up, and will see finaly, how clevo will adress the power issue.

So having said that, i will not be amongs the first ppl to get the 460m slis.

There is a comprehensive description of the barts and barts xt GPU amd just launched on anandtech, and the mobility radeon 6870 will be based on THESE chips.
Being 6870 it will probably end up faster than 5870 wich is allready fsater than 460m.
But the features, and not the performance, are the ones that are interesting.

For a reading here is the link:
AMD?s Radeon HD 6870 & 6850: Renewing Competition in the Mid-Range Market - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

In my opinion, its not a smart move to get something today, only to see that in a few weeks a next gen similar device was launched on the market.

So i will wait, as waiting is a virtue.

    Here are some thoughts:
I will mostly use the laptop playing wow. Ofcourse i will play some other games, but wow is gona be like a permanent game on the gaming list.

Wow benefits the most from a powerful CPU. Gpu is less important.
Here the core i7 lga 1366 cpu is gonna be very helpfull as it is a very powerfull cpu.

I know wow doesnt scale very well with dual gpus. I did some research and here is what i found:

I will play wow at 1080p with 4x AA, and look at this:

Wow Performance 1920x1200 with 4aa on a 6850 Crossfire and core i7 [email protected]:
A 6850 crossfire performance might be similar to a mobility radeon 6870 in crossfire, because they will be based on the same chip.
    Notice the crossfire scalling, or should i say the lack of;

    Now look here:
Wow Performance 1920x1200 with 4aa on a 450 SLI and core i7 [email protected]:
450 desktop is equal in performance to 470m of the mobile world.
Notice there is acctualy scalling this time around.

So to put it simply, the x7200 with nvidia gpus, and a SSD is gonna be the best laptop to play wow, even with a 950 and 460m sli.

460m look more appealing to me than 470m, since it is acctualy a FULL geforce 106 CHIP. Currently there is no desktop GPU that has a full Geforce 106 chip.
470m on the other hand is a fairly cut down geforce 104 chip (288 shaders and 192bit). Like so the destop 460 gtx card (336 shaders and 192 bit for 768mb version and 336 shaders and 256 bit for 1gb-2gb versions). Only the future geforce 560 will be the full blow geforce 104 chip (384 shaders meaning 2 FULL graphics processor clusters each with 48*4 shaders each and 256 bit), with additional tweek for power and so on so forth, rebranded geforce 114.

Currently i know of only 2 full CHIPS, the geforce 460m wich is a full geforce 106 chip, and geforce 580, wich is a full geforce 100 chip, but with few additional tweks, rebranded geforce 110.

I don\t know about you, but i think it is better to have a full working chip, than the next tier chip, but cut down.

Think of the fact that the geforce 104 chip is made to be 48*8 shaders big. Instead in the 470m there are 2*48 shaders disabled, and in the 460 desktop there are 1*48 shaders disabled.

Maybe, not maybe, surely, the 460m is gonna be the more efficient of the lot, and who knows, maybe overclock better.

The fact of the matter is, the 470m is made from geforce 104 chips wich had defects in production, and thus there had to be a de-activation of 2x48 shaders. THus they could sell even these defected chips, and still make profit.

This situation is not the only one however. The batch results in also full working geforce 104 chips. But nvidia had to disable 2 working "clusters" of 48 shaders, to make the 470m and 1 pair of "clusters" to make the 460 desktop.

They did this not because 2 or 1 clusters were not made correct in the production procces (is sometime IS the case) but just to make a GPU in a specific performance range.

What this means, is: We can make a full geforce 104 gpu, but hey, lets nerf it just so we can cover bigger performance ranges.

THIS WILL ALWAYS be the case as long as the monetary system exists however, as this way of acting is totaly based on profit.

In an economy based on resources, there would be only 4 GPUs:
The high end full blown geforce 100/110 gpu with 512 shaders (like the 580 is)
The full blown geforce 104/114 gpu, like the future 570 will be.
The full blown geforce 106 GPU, like the 460m is.
And the full blown geforce 108 gpu like the geforce 430 is.

So i will choose a FULL WORKING GPU, thank you very much.
AND we ARE actualy lucky the geforce 460m EXISTS, and we are even lucky than that we can have it in the x7200.

I hope more of you will start to appreciate the 460m gpu this way.

Here is the diagram(geforce 465 desktop, same as 480m), a full non red version of this is the geforce 580
Minus 2 instead of 5 is the geforce 470 gtx, and minus 1 is the geforce 480 gtx.

core i7 950, 460m sli, 12gb ram, samsung 470 128gb ssd, blueray reader, intel 6300 wireless, and the TV TUNNER.

As a bonus i got a roccat PYRA notebook gaming mouse.

I have to pay 2580 including the 52.50 eur for transport.

I also ordered here in my country, 1 western digital 500gb 7200 rpm hdd, and 1 western digital 1TB 5200 rpm hdd.

I don't know ? Is there some else who ordered a 460m sli x7200 here on the forums ? I was curious regarding performance.

Are those 2 ssds raided ?
If yes, you know you cant trim then when raided. Thats why im keepin one ssd.
I will later on (christmas time) get the 7200rpm 500 WD, and the TB WD.

Can't wait to see how this baby performs.
Cause i ain't never had such a powerfull pc before. And neither did i ever had a ssd or dual gpus before.

This laptop will definetly make my day !

Nice! I must say I am quite envious of you guys. I have a very strict space requirement otherwise I probably would have goten a 17" with dual 460M. But 15.6" is the highest I can go so I had no choice but to settle on NP8690.

When you guys get the machine, can you run some game benchmarks such as crysis, bf2, metro2033 etc. Thanks!

Sure. It is going to be fast, since all those benches will be run of the ssd.
However, it is going to be at least a week untill i'll get mine.

Maybe someone else will get it before i do.

Overall, performance will be above 480m/470m.
I don't know how will be performance compared to radeon 5870 crossfire though.

A little wait time, and we will see.

I ordered from MySn.De Thats germany and shiping is 52.50 euros.

To me it also seems the cheapest retailer of clevo laptops in europe.

It was to complicated for me to order from states. Because i am not sure how vat is handled, whereas germany and romania are theoreticaly part of eu, and there shouldt be any taxes, even if vat in germany is 19%, and here in romania is 24%

I need some advice before I purchase the 7280. I have read a majority of the posts on this forum and xoticpc forum pertaining to the 7280. I’ve debated over this system because of the long post about the power supply and trust me, I read every single comment in that thread. As far as I can tell, I have no intentions of overclocking and to be honest I wouldn’t know how to do it anyways. Right now, heating issue doesn’t seem to be a problem. I am trying to stay within $2700 and I realize that this system allows for user upgrades. Hopefully that’s not too difficult as I would like to add a second hard drive and possibly a blueray player.

    1. Should I get 2x 460 SLI or just 1 480 graphics card?
    2. Would this system be compatible with future graphics cards without having to make major modifications such as motherboards and stuff?
    3. Any recommended sites that are reliable and have good customer service would be great.

The only game I’ve played lately was WoW because my last video card (7950) fried in my desktop. Local retailer built the system in a case with poor ventilation. Haven’t played any first person shooters, so not sure what other games I would be playing, but I want it to be able to handle them... as anyone does :) . I’ve listed the components for one that I built on PCTorque.com. The bullets are the available option upgrades with price.

There will be no power issues what so ever, no matter the CPU, if you go for the 460m sli.
Each card is rated at 50-60w TDP, and 2 of them with the 130w cpu will be well within limits of the 300w power brick wich, by the way can draw as much as 380w from the wall before tripping.

    Thats one point.
Another point is that 480m Simply IS NOT WORTH IT.
480m is based of a chip that is known to have power issues. Its the first gen Fermi chip.
It was, at it lauch, the only method nvidia had to tackle the mobility radeon 5870.
They used a chip wich should have never made it in any laptop. But they did it anyway because they had no choice.

Apart from that the chip is a severly cut down version of the first fermi chip ever to come out.
It is missing 5x32 shaders. And uses way to much power even for its own good (and im talking about desktop part)

Compared to this, the 470m, uses a smaller chip, the geforce 104 chip, wich is suppose to be made out of 8x48 shaders. This one is also cut down to 6x48 in order to meet thermal requirements.

Compared to this, the 460m is based of the geforce 106 chip, wich is suppose to have 4x48 shaders. And its exactly how much the actual gpu has.

This type of GPU, the geforce 106, and the geforce 104, are the types of cpus that should be in laptops, and no the power hungry initial geforce 100 fermi gpu. It is even having issues in desktops. That the reason the 480m has severy dropped frequency all over.

The 460m gpu is the best gpu one could have if we are to take power consumptions into considerations.

Therefore even 2 of them wont cause ANY problems what so ever in the x7200. The PSU can handle them, and the cooling definetly can handle them.

Also, 2x460m performs better than a single 480, wich is more expensive, and wich also has lower performance per watt compared to the sli version.

The most efficient card for the laptops is the 470m, while for the desktops the 500 GTX. Too bad the 470m is not available for the x7200.

Thanks Bytales for the response. I was hoping the 460's were gonna be a good deal and I am more convinced that is definitely the route for me. I know the hard drives and the ram can be upgraded, but what about the optical drive. Can I upgrade later to a blue ray or am I stuck with whatever I originally purchase?

Me too. I want the x7200 with a hexacore and one 470m but I know I do not really needed at this moment since my old D901C is working perfectly so I can wait until I get the 'click'.

I think you can, but you will be stuck with the old one. Thats why i decided to spend a little extra to get a blue ray reader. I didnt bother with the writer, because i will always be able to get soem external if i need to, and besides, theyre planning on introducing 100gb discs, so these will be obsolete.

Looks like ill be gettin it week 49. 2 more weeks to wait, at the maximum.

maybe someone else will be gettin the 460m sli before i do.

Now my sn.de has replaced 480m option (single and dual) in the x7200 with the 470m.
Lower power draw, aprox 75 or so w, and performance better than 480m. Thats why it took this much for the 470m to be available in the x7200. They waited for the 480m stock to clear.

Anyway, 480m was dead even before it was born. Just my opinion.

For now, the 470m sli should be the strongest video solution on any laptop. 480m sli comes second, and 460m sli with 5870crosffire comes in third.

UPS will be delivering mine today. I plan on running 3dMark Vantage on it. Any other benchmarks I should do? I got the 460M SLI and 2 80GB SSD's in Raid 0. I opted for the i7-950 so hoping that doesn't hurt my overall performance to much.

Gonna order mine in a day or two. Is there a significant difference between the two Rams..1066MHz and the 1333MHz? Still undecided on who is offering the best deal/customer service/reputation..xotic, malibal, pctorque or powernotebooks...

Yes you can use the upgrade Windows 7 on a new system / hard drive. Just make sure you have a full retail version of Windows XP or Vista to be compliant with Microsoft.

We should transform this thread in 460m sli benchmark thread.
Post some numbers after you get it.
Im interested in 3dmark 2006 score, and p vantage score physics off, gpu vantage score in perfromance mode physics off.

Will you be running the benchmarks of the intel raid array ?

We will se how those compare to my running of a single ssd. After i\ll be gettin mine.

I cant wait to see how the tv tunner is implemented, Esspecialy the remote, as is suppose to work with the inbuilt infra red port.

Ill be preppin a full review once i get it, and the other 2 hard drives. Ill put the order for the drives once i get the laptop.

I was thinking, besides the samsung ssd, two seagates 750@7200 rpm. I dont know wheter or not to raid them

Im thinking, if one (hdd) breaks of, so does the whole raid array, and everything on it is destroyed.
    What are your opinions ?

Let's have whoever gets their SLI 460Ms first open a fresh thread for benches.
    I believe this is correct.

    Nottin'
    Pretty much for storage.
I\ll be usin the ssd for OS games and programs.

I might as well use two 1tb western digitals, but i dont know if i can fit 2x12.5mm hdd,so thats why i was thinking those seagates.

My initial thought was a fast 500gb 7200rpm, and a big slow 1tb for storage.

Then i learned there is 750@7200rpm, and i sayed, hmm, might as well use two of those...

Depends on which cpu you are installing. The only cpu that supports 1333 Mhz RAM is the 980X, so if you chose any other cpu then go with the 1066 Mhz.

You won't notice any difference. Normally, a 1066MHz RAM has CAS Latency 7 while 1333MHz is CAS-9. The real performance difference is pretty negligible.

Just a note reminder, all of the memory shipping in the x7200-NP7280's is the 1333MHz no matter which CPU you pick. It's just that all but the 980x down clock to the 1066... :)
