So I've been looking up these Clevo/Sagar computers on XoticPC and I'm very impressed. I was able to build a computer that was much more powerful than anything I've seen on any of the other major sites for a fraction and fair price. I had a few questions though, as I'm looking to maybe order the 5792 next month sometime:

I noticed they have dead pixel protection for 30 days... is this a problem normally with their stuff?

Does the mini ieee 1394 port work slower than a full size firewire port? This is very important because I can't afford the latency when my mixing console is connected. My understanding is that it runs as fast as the 6pin FW, but isn't powered, which is fine as all my external gear has it's own power source.

Where is better to buy from, XoticPC or Sagers own website? They both seem to have the same prices, so what is the overall difference between the sites?

Do they ever have sales or ways to get discounts? The end price I got for the PC I built was around $3500, which is about $1500 more than I was originally budgeted for, but it will also last longer since it's got better components. However, it's a steep price to pay right after Christmas. :p

Dead pixels do show up rarely. However all Sagers come with a 30 Day return policy. If by chance you get a dead pixel you would have to pay shipping to return and shipping out of the new machine. If you dont want to deal with this inconvenience (returning and reshipment) the dead pixel policy adds peace of mind and guaranteed no dead pixels from the start.

You are correct about the firewire. The speeds are identical. The only difference is the extra 2 pins that are for DC powering of a unit.

As a Sager Customer through a reseller you will find additional advantages compared to purchasing from Sager direct such as:
    - Some resellers provide LIFETIME 24/7 DOMESTIC Technical Support available 24 hours a day 364 days a year
    - You will receive additional options and more personal services when dealing with a reseller

Always contact the place you decide to go with and review any questions you have. :)

    What a diplomatic answer. :)

To the OP, check out the sticky at the top of this forum "Clevo Guide - FAQ and Reseller Info" for more information about purchases through resellers or direct from Sager.

364?!?!? Pffft, if its not 365 I aint buying!!! J/k.

Justin is right, the 24 hour tech support goes largley overlooked.

Also, something to consider that Justin (XoticPC), Paladin44 (PowerNotebooks) and a few others are constantly on these forums keeping us up on the info as they get it about their products. They put a LOT of effort in dealing with their customers.

The only reason I didn't go with Xotic was timing and personal experience with PCMicroworks. Looking back, its a hard choice for me if I had to make it all over again. I really respect the resellers on the forums actually discussing their products with the community.

Haha, damn, that's what I call service. Ask a question and get an actual answer from someone in the company first. You just don't see that anymore. You sure you're not located in India?

Thanks for the quick replies, all. I guess I'll start reworking my budget. :)
