    4690k

    1 tb ssd

    4k screen

    980m

    16 gb of ram

The guy wants $1650 for it, with overnight shipping. Good deal or no?

You can buy a new Sager 9758-S for $2644 with

    6700K
    4K screen
    1TB Samsung X400 SSD
    1TB HGST 7K1000 HD
    16GB DDR4-2133
    980M
    Intel Wireless 8260
    330W PSU
    IC Diamond on both CPU+GPU

That also includes a warranty which is something to take into consideration. Replacement parts aren't cheap when you don't have a warranty. If the 980M died, for example, you'd be looking at 700+ to replace it on the market.

Its really up to you what you think the machine is worth so I figured I would present you with an alternative view for a new machine. Obviously the processor is more expensive as is the RAM in the new one. I don't know which SSD was in the old one so I can't comment there but that's something to look into as well. If its a good drive, it raises the value quite a bit since SSDs are not cheap.

That's drive absolutely destroys the X400. Something to take into consideration as well.

Also keep in mind the refreshes are coming over the next months too.

In light of new, much faster GPUs coming in the next few months, I would try and talk him down to $1500, maybe even less if he can keep the SSD. 1 TB drives that will be more than sufficient for everyday use can be had for around $200 if you time your purchase correctly.

Clevo makes good systems, but they don't hold their value particularly well.

Do you really need 1TB of SSD? Honestly, if you don't it could be just better to buy a new one.

I wouldn't pay more than 1500 for that machine.. Mainly because the CPU is only a 4690K and there is no warranty..

If you can wait, save up further and get a new laptop.. If you can wait for around $2000-2200 you'll be able to get a Pascal GPU and a new kaby lake CPU probably..

Yeah see if it was a 4790K I'd be more apt to recommend it since the difference between the 4790K and 6700K is minimal and Kaby Lake isn't likely to have massive performance improvements either, it's just a rebranded Skylake while Intel works on Cannonlake.

I just personally wouldn't buy a machine without a warranty.

It depends if the applications like hyperthreading or not, for games the i5 actually will get the job done the vast majority of the time just as well as the i7.
