ProStar is an integrator Canadian or American?

They appear to be a US company that offers dedicated service and warranty support for Canada. Allegedly there are no customs or duty fees, but you are still responsible for all applicable GS, HS, and PS taxes.

There are a few Sager resellers in Canada, including Reflex Notebooks and Fortnax.

I'm sorry I know nothing about business, what it means "all applicable GS, HS, and PS taxes".

General Sales Tax, Provincial Sales Tax, and Harmonized Sales Tax. For example in Ontario it is 13% HST, so if you're laptop comes out to $2000 CDN, it will be 2000x1.13= $2260. You will pay the $2000 to the reseller, then when you're laptop is delivered be prepared to pay the $260 taxes to be given your package.

I'm sure you know what taxes are, but it's for the government. When you buy things from stores you pay it to the store, and the store has to give that money to the government. In the case of a laptop coming in from the states, your reseller already paid the taxes to get it into the country (it's for the buyer to pay though), so you will have to pay when it's delivered, and they'll get their money back or whatever.. something like that >_>

Are you in the US? Just use an American reseller as there are many more. If you are in Canada, there is Fortnax, Reflex, and Eurocom.

Post your location and we would be more able to explain what duties/fees you might encounter.

Then don't buy it from a Canadian reseller. Buy it from Xoticpc or Malibal or someone in the US. Give them the shipping address of your friend in the US.

If you buy in Canada, the laptop goes from Taiwan to California to Canada and then you'll have to send it to the US again and you will have all the shipping tax problems.

Buy it from a US reseller so that it doesn't leave the US and you don't have to pay for duties and shipping and taxes in both countries.

Yeah just buy it from ProStar, and ship directly to the recipient.

ProStar is based in, and ships directly from California.
