    Hello everyone,

I'd like to ask some Sager related questions, because I believe that ChiliGREEN notebooks are just a rebranded Sager notebooks. Here goes a photo of "chili" notebook.

Looks familiar? ;) So, I'm intending to buy this one for my GF, but to be honest -- I have extremely limited knowledge about notebooks and need some assistance from pros. That is you. :)

I'm from Europe (Poland, to be exact) and Sager notebooks are not available here. We do have ChiliGREEN notebooks, however (FYI: ChiliGREEN is an Austria-based company). My GF is pretty much into Elder Scrolls series and my greatest concern is: can I expect Oblivion to run on medium details on this machine? It's specs (some of them) are as follows:
    - Intel Pentium 4 M-740 1700MHz (Centrino Sonoma) L2 cache 2MB FSB 533Mhz
    - 60GB HDD (5400 RPM)
    - 512 DDR 333 MHz
    - NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800GTX 256MB
    - WXGA CrystalBrite 1440 x 900

I'll extend RAM up to 1-2GB and change HDD to 7200 RPM model. However as stated before -- I have little knowledge about mobile technology and I don't know if CPU/GPU performance will be good enough to play Oblivion without a headache. Is there any way to compare M-740 to a desktop CPU? How does Go 7800GTX perform in comparison to desktop GPUs?

That's a lot of questions asked and little to give in exchange, but I can share some performance data when (if) I buy this notebook to give you some idea how it performs in comparison to Sager notebooks. Perhaps some additional information about rebranded Sagers in "Sager Notebook Models Guide" thread would be valuable for visitors from outside the US?

    TIA,
    Ryan

Sager also rebrands notebooks, FYI - a company called Clevo in Taiwan makes the actual chassis, then companies like Eurocom, Sager rebrand & customize them.

The notebook you listed is an older one, but still very powerful for 3D. I would try to get something with a dual-core processor if possible. Take a look at RockDirect, I believe they will ship to you in Poland. The Xtreme CTX is a newer version of that model, and comes with a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo CPU - they are dual-core CPUs, its like having two enhanced Pentium M's on a single chip. It also comes with a more powerful Go7900GTX.

The Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz) is roughly on par with an Intel Pentium 4 2.8-3.0GHz/AMD Athlon 64 3000+/3200+.
And the Go7800GTX is about as fast as a desktop 7800GT.
I will consider doing that, thanks for the suggestion. I'll be updating the guide soon anyway.

Hey search for Clevo on Wikipedia. That's how I discovered Eurocom in Canada... You'll have a complete list of rebranders.

According to my "research" this one is in the top 3 most powerful notebooks available on our tiny market. ;)

The funny thing is that here they usually come with GPUs from Intel "Accelerators" up to x700 at most. I don't want GPU to be a bottleneck.

...and it's 20% more expensive + shipping + difficulties with service if anything goes wrong. That would be a good idea if not both distance and cost. I'll consider RockDirect with my next purchase though. Thanks. :)

Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted to know. You're an invaluable source of knowledge. :)

    Best regards,
    Ryan
