What does the Windows display manager (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution) show when you plug it in?

Did you switch the Dell monitor to DVI input before plugging it in?

Same problem with my Dell 2007WFP screen, but only after I installed the latest driver from Nvidia (195.62). The screen does not get recognized by the system when waking up from sleep mode - it does however get recognized when restarting or turning it on from completely off. In addition, it is impossible to get the Nvidia contol panel to set my laptop screen as the primary screen, it defaults to the external as the primary, and won't budge.
I did not have these problems with the older Nvidia drivers - or maybe it's the latest version of Nvidia's system tools that is the problem.
Think I may have to roll all drivers and Nvidia system tools back to older version.

Well, rolling back the driver did not help. Will try the previous release of the System Tools - if I only can find the slightly older version of it.

I ran into that issue... but resolved it after a full clean out of the Nvidia drivers and installed a 185.xx driver.

make sure that the DVI is outputting even if your are in the BIOS.
    - plug in the monitor and the DVI cable
    - power on the system

the monitor should display whats on the notebook during the bootup.

How do you do a thorough cleanout of the Nvidia drivers? Is a regular uninstall good enough?

    Thanks Gophn!
    Ill try that :)

    EDIT:
Use Driver Cleaner or CCleaner to get rid of all the registry values and temp files

a normal Uninstall can leave remnants... like previous configs and settings.

Driver Cleaner or CCleaner is recommended for trying different drivers.

Clean install of 185.61 did the trick for me :) Thanks.
But now I have lost the OC section in the system tools--- how do I get that back?
Also have to calibrate my laptop screen again, because old settings are gone.

to get back the OC section, download and install Nvidia System Tools 6.02 or 6.03

I forgot which one since the latest one (6.05) does not work on 185.xx drivers.
