Just received my Sager NP6165 / Clevo W150ER a few days ago and did a clean install of Windows 7 on it. Now I am trying to copy files from my Pivos Aios media player that has a USB 3.0 interface and when I connect it I get a "This device can work faster if connected to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port" from Windows.

The transfer speed I am getting is about 27-33 Mb/s which is the same as when I connect the player to the USB 2.0 port. The drive inside the player is 1TB WD Green Caviar 3.5" so I expect it to be faster than that.

I have the latest USB 3.0 driver installed (Intel USB 3.0 Root Hub v.1.0.5.235). I have tried connecting the USB 3.0 device first and it does not make any difference.

Anyone has any ideas why I am not getting USB 3.0 speeds?

I take it you are connecting to the usb3 ports rather than the usb2. Is the port showing up in device manager?

I wouldn't expect much faster speeds, while alot of new products are saying they are USB 3.0 compatible they are still limited on how fast they can physically spin. Since you have a regular hard drive it will never get to USB 3.0 or even max 2.0 speeds. Mechanical drives just cant spin faster enough. Even the top consumer SSD's on the market arent fast enough to get to full USB 3.0 speeds.

Thats doesn't make sense. Check to make sure the device is working properly in the device manager. To my understanding, a spinning disc drive should be at least 50% faster on USB 3.0 based on reviews I saw over a year ago on the Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0.

I am having the exact same problem! I connect USB 3.0 flash drives and hdd's but it gives me the same message as to you.

Have you already tried connecting in Safe Mode? I can have 3.0 speeds there, no problems at all. I don't know what the problem could be...

For mine its not intel it says rensas usb 3.0 so you should get the drivers from your reseller.

Any hard drive now a days can easily max out USB 2.0 Speeds even if they are 5400RPM. Average read and write speeds for Hard Drives are 60-80MB/s Read and 50-60MB/s Write on continuous files.
If Windows is saying "that this device can perform faster" and you have it plugged into a USB 3.0 port then make sure the plug is in all the way. Unlike USB 2.0, the 3.0 connectors are at the very front of the USB port and if it gets knocked it just a little bit, it will only run at 2.0 speeds. Another thing to check is to make sure it is actually a 3.0 port. I know it sounds dumb, but I have done it before ;) If you are copying a bunch of little files then maybe the drive isn't fast enough or you have a very fragmented drive.. haha. Download HDTune and run a test on the drive and see what speeds you are getting, if they are above 40MB/s it's safe to say you are running in 3.0 mode :)

Here is the review of my drive from Tom's Hardware. The read throughput he's getting is 97 MB/s. Real-world USB 2.0 throughput is 35-40 MB/s.

Do you know how to use Linux or installing it ?. If so , you can test hard drive file transfer to confirm if you have the same issue

I'm getting 110mb/s transferring from the 7200RPM internal drive to a USB 3.0 5400RPM 1tb drive. I'm using the USB 3.0 drivers from the Sager website.
