Hey guys, I have had my NP9130 for a few days and it is great. A problem I came across however was the fact that whenever I was on battery games had very low FPS. I tried fiddling with the nvidia control panel to enable the GTX 670M when I ran my games, but it seems like the integrated graphics card is the only one being used on battery. Once I plug in the machine the frame rates are fine. Any suggestions?

pretty sure you just need to be plugged in when you game though u may be able to set it manually to run on dgpu on battery

note that battery life will be atrocious doing this

your laptop has a 180W power brick for a reason - it's just not possible to power a 100W gpu with just battery power

This is something that is known for the high-end gaming laptop segment.
The one thing that DOES NOT improve over the generations is the battery power.
No idea why. They just produce the same low-wattage batteries like for the middle-segment and we simply cant get good performance, let alone battery life.
I think if they put in better batteries, it will skyrocket the price to the high heavens and we wouldn't be buying laptops every year, but more like every 5 years.
Anyways, try this: play older games while on battery power and if you must game on the newer ones - then lower the graphics and limit the frames to 40. This should reduce the strain on the battery. You can also downvolt and downclock your GPU.

Play whatever games the HD4000 can handle. If you really need games on the go, just play on your Windows/Android phone/tablet instead.

Gaming on battery for me is this:
1.) Somewhere without a power socket nearby means I dont have my USB keyboard with me, also means I will be somewhere around nature without a table & chair to sit on, which totally RULES OUT gaming in general.
2.) The second scenario is this: Im at home, playin' Starcraft or Diablo 3 and the power goes off. BUT...I have an UPS device, which guarantees me at least 15 minutes of solid gaming without problems. If the power is still out after these 15 mins, I just unplug the laptop from the power socket and let the UPS handle only the speakers and the modem. I minimize the game and start surfing the web until the power goes back on.

Really, I cant imagine many occasions where I would be gaming on battery power (let alone to expect long gaming time).

The only games I could play on battery for long are BroodWar, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, CounterStrike Source and all others that can be played with Power Saving settings.

It isn't a big deal that I can't use the Dedicated gpu on battery life but it would just be nice. Sometimes I just want to show someone a game for a bit or go on a game for just 10 minutes but the performance is bad on battery is bad because of the intel gpu. Since I know the m14x can have its dedicated card on when it is on battery I assumed other optimus machines could do the same. Since I can't, its not a very big deal. Thanks guys!
