    Guys,

I got a problem now with my NP8170.

Last night, after gaming and let it rest for a while, I was running furmark. Then when the benchmark nearly completed (at around 80%++) I guess, the screen starts to mess up and then the windows orb was on the right. The screen was like in half.

Then I managed to turn it off as usual. After few minutes, I tried to turn it back on, but the screen doesn't turn on. I can hear the fans, hdd is working though. Force shut down it and try again, still the same.

Then I try to connect it to my TV via HDMI. Only then I can see the display on the tv ONLY. My laptop still doesn't display anything. It's just like when the laptop is off. Then I got BSOD stating 'atikmpag.sys'.

I managed to remove this BSOD by starting in safe mode and uninstall ATI driver and also use driver sweeper.

Upon rebooting, everything is fine and managed to login into normal window and straight away reinstall ATI driver again.

Upon completion and reboot, the screen is messed up again. (Note that it is on the tv, the laptop's monitor still doesn't work).

Tried to remove driver again etc, still, cant turn on the laptop's display.

Everytime I install the ATI driver, can't login to normal windows (will get BSOD).

Till now, can't get the laptop's display to work and I have to use TV to display it and without ATI driver.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Were you overclocking the gfx card at the time of the first failure? It's possible that the internal temperature fried (in the literal sense) some part of your graphics card. However you don't see hardware failures of that calibur unless you achieve a board temp of well over 110, are you able to acquire any benchmarks as to how hot the on-board temp was during your tests?

Nope, no overclocking during the time of failure. I did opened HWMonitor during that time and the max temperature recorded was 82C.

Then it's extremely likely that it's a hardware based failure as 82c is not hot enough to cause the kind of heat necessary to fry out a new card. When you're hooking it up to the TV you're bypassing the graphics card since HDMI out doesn't rely on it.

Have you tried contacting Sager / the reseller you went through about this issue? Also, have you considered doing a hard-reset of the card (removing it / replacing it on the motherboard)?

Aside from those two options I don't think that you're going to resolve this by updating drivers / changing around options.

Yeah I guess maybe there's a connector/pin loose or something on the display. (Not that sure)

Yep, I already contact my reseller, but well, it's Christmas. Just have to wait then.

Kinda weird it happens suddenly cause I've been gaming on it and ran furmark without problem.

Will try to reseat the graphic card.

I have tried to reseat the RAM etc but still the display doesn't work. I have never flashed the bios before, so I'm sure that's not the problem.

    Thanks by the way! :)

Something like this wouldn't be the bios related, the reseating is just running with the assumption that a pin might have been out of place which could've caused an arc or inadequate current or a whole host of other issues.

While you're digging around in there, refresh the connection from the monitor to the motherboard as well... what do you have to lose, right?
