Hi, I have a Sager NP9150, recently I've had some random problems with my Msata SSD.

basically, half the time it doesn't show up in the bios and I can't boot from it, the other half it works fine. It's very odd.

Is this a common problem that I could remedy somehow or is it something shorting out that I need to RMA?

Edit: SOLVED lower firmware versions of Crucial Msata SSDs could have hanging problems when no battery is inserted.

It could be just loose. If its a Sager computer you're welcome to open it up and check. Feel free to remove it and reseat it to make sure it is secure. If that doesnt solve it you may need a RMA.

Oddly, it seems to have nothing to do with the seating.

Even odder, sometimes if i fidget with the DVD drive in the laptop, it gets it to kick on. Is there any kind of related cabling or shared function that would be causing it?

I dont know 100% for sure but they are both SATA II ports and could be running off the same controller.

I've heard of a similar problem with 2.5" SSDs, but not the mSATAs. If the seating doesn't seem to be the issue, it may be time to contact your reseller/retailer for advice and possible RMA.

Well, it is working now. Apparently the issue is the Msata drive, for some reason, didn't like to pop up often when the battery wasn't inserted.

Im new to personal laptops so... I am confused but whatever!

Since its on and off, maybe it needs a firmware updated to fix a known issue. Check the mSATA's manufacturer's site to see if there are any.

Well, it wasn't really much of a problem anymore, as it works 100% of the time with the battery inserted. It's just when the bay was empty it'd hang and fail to boot.

Still, even I as a newer laptop owner, know that's not supposed to happen, even if it is a small problem at best. So, I took your advice and went to the SSD's maker (Crucial) and lo and behold the firmware was out of date and the top fix was one to improper power draw at boot and hanging.

So, all problems now fixed. You know, it's amazing I didn't think to check firmware, usually im the kind of weirdo who bum rushes firmware at the first sign of problem, hoping for a cure-all.

Anyhow, alls well for now, thank you very much Hutsady and Prostar.
