    Hey guys.

I just bought a Sager notebook, model np9170, with ivy bridge 3610qm, amd 7970m. The other components are standard.

The wireless card is not working correctly.

I´ve installed all drivers from the dvd, and the windows device manager indicates no problem with drivers.

However, the (fn + f11) does not work. The wireless LED indicator is illuminated after installing the drivers, but I can not turn off or turn on the wireless by pressing fn + f11 (within or outside of windows).

The only way to turn off the wireless LED is turning off the wireless card in device manager windows.

I can only use the wireless by following these steps: by going into Device Manager, deactivating and reactivating the wireless realtek. After doing this, it works normally.

However, after restarting Windows, the wireless stops working again, and I have to repeat the steps: deactivate and reactivate the card realtek in device manager.

You know what's going on? Why (fn + f11) does not work? And Why when I start windows I can not use wireless.

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

whos your broadband provider and do you have a hub or router.
you might need to use the disk that came with your router so it can set up and talk to your laptop.

i had same sort of problem when i installed a new hard drive and os as wireless wouldnt work for me at first.

When i start the windows, i can´t even find the networks in my neighborhood. I can´t turn on the wireless by pressing fn + f11 either...
But when I deactivate and reactive the wireless adapter in device manager, the adapter works fine, connecting to any network normally (except that I can not turn it off by pressing fn + f11 - these keys never work)

So I think the problem is not in communication with the networks, but some internal problem with the notebook.

Try talking to Sager via mail or so.
You can also try opening the back and check on the cables, you know just for safety measures :)

    If nothing works.. RMA it

another thing. drivers have to be loaded in a certain order. not sure if this is the same on new models but my m860tu they had to be loaded in order or quite a few wouldnt work or conflict with each other.
    let me check the manual.

which wireless card have you got.

The card is a Realtek RTL8723AE

Updating: After after reinstalling a lot of drivers, now the problem is a little different. After getting the wireless work through the device manager, the fn + f11 keys can turn on and off the wireless LED. But unfortunately, when I restart windows, the problem persists (fn + f11 stop working). Sounds like a driver issue, right?

Sounds like the hotkey drivers need reinstalling.

Just a update: I tried several things, but nothing solved the problem so far...

I made a small fix that works around the problem: I created a batch file with the following lines: "netsh interface set interface NameOfAdapter disable; netsh interface set interface NameOfAdapter enable" and put this batch to run on windows startup...

Now when entering the windows, the network is disconnected and connected, and works normally...

It´s a small hack, but works...

If anyone has an idea how to solve the real problem, please tell me

Did you buy this directly from sager or did someone else build this system? I started reading your high heat problem and started back tracking to see who built it. I was planning on buying the same rig but I would like to know who is building and who is testing them before shipping them out the door.

    Thanks!

I had that problem once and never could find a solution. I used a similar workaround to yours but it was a little simpler. I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 and that fixed it. This was a self built workstation, not a laptop though.

Directly from sager, through an authorized dealer in my country.
Wireless problem was a software problem, not hardware. I forgot to mention in this topic, because it was a guy from "sevenforums" who gave the idea..

I was testing a defective version of windows.
So I tried to install a correct version, the problem of wireless disappeared.

    But overheating problem persists...

Glad you were able to work out the wireless problem and hope the heating problem is taken care of or at an acceptable level.
